EIGHTEEN April

One of the most challenging things I've had to do today is not burst out laughing hysterically when Julian refuses to meet eyes with the woman he was supposed to go easy on. Frankly speaking, I couldn't understand why Liya didn't tell him that she is a professional swimmer but when Julian started declaring repeatedly that he will go easy on her, I knew that he had dug up his own grave. Liya is one of those women who prefer to act than talk, so instead of telling him that he's highly mistaken about who she is, she chose to respond by defeating him in this make-believe swimming contest. So as she runs towards us with a victorious grin on her face, Spencer and I collapse against her with a trio hug. We dance like total buffoons with the sunset as our backdrop and boyish hoots as the background music, it looks like a scene right out of a comedy film.

"Have I ever told you that you swim like an angel?!" Spencer exclaims and I nod enthusiastically. "You're a freaking mermaid!"

"GOD, that felt awesome!" The grin on Liya's face is so genuine, I'm sure she was dying to show Julian that he doesn't have to go easy on her just because she's a woman.

"It was awesome for sure!"

We break from the hug and face the boys, one of whom keeps staring at the sand. Poor guy. If I know him well enough, he is probably embarrassed - not about him losing, but for assuming. And I'm proven right when he steps up, finally looks Liya in the eye and apologizes to her. She just brushes it off and once again, they build an invisible bubble that separates them from the rest of us. I chuckle.

"Hey, we have those unopened packets of marshmallows, right?" Jacob asks out of the blue as we collectively observe the beauty of a beach sunset. The sheer reflection of the sun against the waves seems magical enough to make me never wanna leave this place.

"Oh ya! Hey, we can set up a bonfire and roast marshmallows! You three in?" Ryan asks us. Spencer, Liya and I stare at each other and then plaster our faces with similar grins that say WHY NOT. Jacob and Jace immediately run towards their beach house to grab said ingredients whilst Shawn, Ryan and Jeremy disappear somewhere to get wood for the bonfire. Julian and Liya fade away into the background as Noah and Spencer do their crackhead business of running around and throwing each other in water. The momma me smiles happily as my two babies have the time of their lives. I give out a sigh of utter satisfaction and slowly walk towards the rocks, where Vilhelm is comfortably settled. My heart starts beating faster the moment I minimize the distance between us.

He doesn't see me approaching him, which is great because it gives me a chance to look at him as much as I want to. I'm half tempted to take out my phone and snap a picture because he looks like a prince. He looks like he literally fell from the sky after doing some angelic photoshoot in heaven, I don't care how cheesy and cringey that sounds. His side profile speaks a language of its own. As if the troublemaker that lives rent-free inside my body hadn't had a chance to resurface for a while, I jump at Vilhelm with a very weird BOO! And to my utter embarrassment, he doesn't even flinch. He just stares at me in a very disinterested manner and I internally smack my head twenty thousand times. What was I thinking? This is so embarrassing. We haven't even talked much, he didn't know that I have a ginormous crush on him and now, confessing is not even a possibility anymore. I just rained on my own parade, I should seriously stop interacting with -

"BOOO!"

To say that I scream out all the years of my life in one go would be an understatement. Just as I was mentally beating myself up, Vilhelm Keller decided to use my own baby trick against me and now he won't stop laughing. If it were some other person, I would've retaliated with a lecture. But well....

I shake my head, plop down on the rock that's directly in front of him and grin as we make eye contact.

"Hey." I put my chin in the palm of my right hand and look at him as his eyes focus on me. Okay, his stare is a weird combination of intimidating and warm.
