"Did you take me to a karaoke café?!" Emily groans as I park my car.

"What? Do you think I have money? This is the cheapest place in town." I say shrugging.

"Wow. I feel loved."

"Good. I'm spending the only $12 dollars on you. Be happy."

"Well, I have $9 dollars to contribute, so we have $23 dollars in total." Emily says shrugging.

"$23? Emily, 9 plus 12 is 21, not 23."

"Um no. Because 9 plus 10 is 21. Duh." She says rolling her eyes like I'm the stupid one.

I simply sigh. "Ok, sure. We have $23 dollars."

Emily grabs my hand and pulls me towards the café, and then pulls me to the line so we can order.

"Oh, wow. This place is cheap!" Emily says looking at the menu.

"Yeah, that's why I took you here."

"Can I have my $9 dollars back?" She asks, holding out her hand.

"Sure." I say handing her her money back, and she sticks it in her pocket.

We order ourselves food and a drink, then go sit down.

We chat casually, occasionally laughing when really enthusiastic singers go and sing a song. There was a few people who did like poems too.

"River, staring contest. 1,2,3 go!" Emily yells catching me off guard, and stares intensely into my eyes.

I stare back, just intensely, matching her energy.

We're going on about 4 minutes, when our food is brought to our table. But Emily definitely blinked first.

"Oh wow, you two are quite young. Youngest people here I bet!" The waiter, who's an elderly man, says setting down our food. "Nowadays kids like you don't do dates anymore."

"Well we aren't regular kids." Emily says smiling up at him. "I enjoy dates, but this guy never takes me in them."

My jaw drops. "I do too!"

"Mhm, of course." Emily says, raising an eyebrow at me.

The older man laughs, probably at us. "You two remind me of my wife and I when we were probably your age. How old are you two?"

"We're both 17, sir." I say, smiling at him.

"Oh wow! You don't see kids in love like that at such a young age. I predict you two will get married young."

"We're planning on it." Emily says smiling at him too. "How long have you and your wife been married?"

"56 years as of today." He says smiling.

"Woah, 56 years! That's impressive! My parents could never." Emily says.

"Finding true love sure is a struggle." The old man says. "But I'm thankful I found my wife."

"Are you working on your anniversary?" I ask, that would suck if he was.

"Yes, I am. But it's not as bad as it would be, you see my wife works here as well. We opened this café together."

"This is a weird question, but can I please meet your wife? I love seeing coupes who have been married for a long time, and asking how they did it. I need all the advice I can get, because my parents have been divorced, and I don't know what a good marriage looks like." Emily says, frowning slightly but covering it.

"Of course! Come along, she's over here." The older man says and waves us over as he walks to the counter.

"Margret! Come here beautiful!" He yells, and I second later a petite older lady comes walking over to the man.
