Request: Legolas and Y/N were rivals (on small things). Then at a feast, Legolas was about to hate Y/N, but ended up falling for her. And he realized how much he loves her. Then, he asks her to dance and turns out that Y/N returns the feeling. 091honey

The night was energetic, and the chatter of the elves filled the great hall, creating a indistinct background noise to (Y/N)'s thoughts. She looked from group to group trying to figure out what each conversation was about and trying to read the body language of the participants. The more dramatic elves were in their movements, the more fun it was for (Y/N) as an onlooker.

One thing that really struck her tonight that had not occurred to her during previous feasts was how it seemed that every other elf in the hall had a partner. Someone who could help carry on the conversation when it seemed lacking, someone to fill the wine glasses, and someone for company when the group dispersed. (Y/N) was very aware that there was nobody on either side of her.

Lost in thought, her eyes floated in every which direction, eventually landing on a blonde-haired prince. She rolled her eyes to herself thinking, Even he has a partner. Or so she thought. Although Legolas was surrounded by several elves, the group was an odd number, and he was the odd one out. But at least he was engaged in conversation with others. That is just another thing he was better at, conversing with others.

(Y/N) sipped her wine glass and decided to observe other elves to entertain herself. It was not long until her mind wandered back to the prince. All her time spent with him was in competition. She thought of their various trials over the years. As elflings, whoever finished their chores first would get to pick teams for the games they played when they were young. As they grew older and had to establish themselves in court, they competed in who could hold the attention of high-status elves in the kingdom longest and gain their favor first. These days, they constantly challenged each other in combat. Duelling and hunting spiders were regular activities that made for daily competition, providing plenty of opportunities to either be in each other's faces about their victories or be tormented for their losses.

Through with reminiscing, (Y/N) brought her mind back from reality as though snapping out of a trance. Unaware with where her eyes had landed, she found Legolas returning her gaze. She quickly averted her eyes, feeling the heat rise to her checks and the tips of her ears. She felt as though she had been caught doing something she should not have been doing.

Peering round her wine glass, Legolas was not where she last saw him. Now, he stood right next to her.

"Couldn't find anyone who would listen to your bad jokes? Or perhaps they are sick of hearing the same anecdotes over again." Legolas teased with a soft voice.

(Y/N) took a deep breath, readying herself to fight back. On second thought, she decided instead to let Legolas off with an easy win. "If you must know, I haven't found it in me tonight to engage in the party," she conceded.

"Really?!" Legolas exclaimed in astonishment. "Usually, you're the one livening up these feasts." His look on her softened as though dropping a façade.

(Y/N)'s eyes met his and she felt she was really seeing him for the first time.

Legolas opened his mouth to speak but quickly decided not to say anything. Ever since yesterday, he has been keeping an eye out for (Y/N) in hopes of passing her. To keep up their competitive streak, we wanted to rile her up and tell her that he thought she cheated in their duel and that is the only reason why she won. But something stopped him from conveying this to her. This would be unkind; after all, she was a very fair and honest elf. Plus, this conversation was unlike any he had had with her, and he was curious to see what direction it was going in.
