"I see... Then why did they raise you to become one?" My eyes widened at this question. I can't say too much. I know I can't.

"Well..."

*(Y/N) POV*

"Well... on my mom's side of the family, the oldest child has always been a male. The eldest male child follows in the footsteps of learning Water Breathing and attempting to create some new style of breathing. However..." I paused for a second. He doesn't need to know about losing control. Not yet. I continued, "My parents had me, they waited a few years and had my sister. They didn't plan on having more than us, so I was deemed the eldest. The younger siblings never learn Water Breathing. My family spent years running from this life, but they needed to pass down our legacy I guess."

I looked at Rengoku and saw him processing the information, "And they decided to send the first female Demon Slayer of the family to train under someone here in Japan?" I nodded my head.

"Is there any particular reason why? Haven't they trained themselves this whole time? Why did they have to send you away?" He questioned me.

"Well, um..."

-Flashback-

"Father, why do I have to go to Japan?" I questioned the man.

"You are going to be finishing your training there. You are losing control more often and we can't have this around your sister."

Of course, my sister. The one who was put on a pedestal because I was the "chosen" one. I don't even know what that means!

"Well can't Uncle help me? I don't understand. How come he's fine and grandpa is fine too?! Why am I the only one who can't control it that easy?" I yelled at my father.

"Because, they found a way to control it. It took them a long time to be able to reach that point, but we don't have that time anymore! If your sister is the first one to bare children into this world, her first child will be the one to take your place!"

Again... my sister. I love her and I don't want her having to go through even half of what I have by baring the first born child. I have to leave. I have to learn how to control it.

My father continued, "Remember, when you get there do not lose control. If you do they might try to hurt you. In Japan, you will become an official member of the Demon Slayer Corps, something our family hasn't done in generations. There's order there, Hashira being the strongest of the Demon Slayers, and they are to be respected. You will be training under the Water Hashira. You are to respect him the same you respect your family here."

By not talking if not spoken to, by following orders, by maintaining control, by not feeling. That was the respect he really meant.

-End Flashback-

I can't tell Rengoku about losing control. The only people who knew were Urokodaki-san, Giyuu, and well... Sabito. I also don't need the pity of him thinking my family favors my sister, I mean they do but...

"They thought it meant something, being that I'm the first female," I began to lie, "They hope that it ends with me. That I'll be the one to master the Breathing Style. Although I do wish they had told me what Breathing Style I'm supposed to master since I can't seem to get the hang of this Rain Breathing." I sighed.

"Very well, why don't you take the rest of the day off. I'm going to head to my father's estate and train my younger brother." I nodded my head, taking the dishes to clean up.

The next week went the same. Breakfast, training, lunch, time alone at the Estate. Mitsuri had stopped by twice for dinner with me and I did truly enjoy spending time with her. It was nice to have another girl to talk to.

I am currently getting out of the shower to prepare dinner. Mitsuri said she would be stopping by tonight. I grabbed a pair of sweatpants and a cropped shirt, my ring, and my shoes. I ran downstairs and began preparing our meal.

As I was finishing up the chicken I head a knock on the door. "It's open," I yelled so she could hear me. I heard Mitsuri walk in and come towards the kitchen, but I also heard a second pair of footsteps with her.

"Hi (Y/N)! I want you to meet someone!" I turned around to my loving friend and saw a man standing next to her with raven black hair. He had two different colored eyes and a bandage covering his mouth. My friend continued the introduction, "This is Iguro Obanai, he's the Serpent Hashira!"

I smiled and bowed my head towards him, "It's a pleasure to meet you Iguro-san."

He nodded his head, "Obanai is fine." I nodded my head and continued, "I don't meant to be rude... but is that a snake?" I pointed to the creature wrapped around his shoulders.

"Oh yea, this is Kaburamaru," he spoke as though it were completely normal. I nodded my head and quickly finished up the food.

We all sat down, eating our meal. Obanai stayed quiet most of the time and didn't seem too friendly. Mitsuri and I talked about anything and everything we could.

Happily eating her food Mitsuri looked up at me, "Hey (Y/N), is there a reason you were that ring all the time? I haven't seen you with out it and you're always playing with it. I noticed it's on your right hand though so it's not like you're married or something."

I coughed on my food a bit, caught off guard. "You don't have to answer that." Obanai stated.

I gave him a small smile and spoke, "Well, when I came here to train I was training along side two boys. I grew closer with one of them and over time I guess I started to have a crush. When we were 16 he gave me this ring as a promise that when we retire or defeat the demons altogether, we could be together."

"So IT IS from a BOY?!" Mitsuri yelled, "I love love!" I laughed at her sudden outburst, "Don't get too excited there, I haven't seen him or spoke to him really since that day." Her jaw dropped as she was mid-chew.

"Mitsuri, please close your mouth," Obanai shook his head, but I could see he was smirking from his eyes. She closed her mouth and swallowed her food before continuing, "So there is a boy out there, who made this promise to you, and you never saw again?!" I nodded my head.

"I mean, he's busy ya know? Our job isn't the easiest," I said looking down.

Obanai coughed, speaking words I never wanted to hear out of anyones mouth, "Are you sure he's not just dead?" Mitsuri smacked his arm yelling at him to apologize.

My eyes teared up a bit at the thought, "I have considered that possibility but I don't think so. His crow would've informed me or our sensei," I took a second before continuing, "Also, I know this sounds crazy... But, I can feel him. I know he's still out there. I just know it."

They nodded their heads and we all finished our food in silence. Mitsuri helped me clean up the plates and the two Hashira took their leave for the night. I went back to my room and laid down in the futon playing with my ring.

I know you're still out there Giyuu. I know you are. But why haven't you reached out? I felt tears start falling down my face as I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.
