Chase's POV

"So you're doing this because of your fans?" She asks.
I take a breath, trying to find the right words to say, to explain why I'm doing this to her. Why I'm breaking her heart.
"Because that's all you care about, right? How your fans see you. The image you put out into the world."
I sigh and take a few steps closer to her, wanting nothing more than to comfort her, "you know that's not true, y/n."
She scoffs, "I don't know that. I don't know anything about you anymore. We used to be best friends, Chase." Her voice cracks. "We never kept secrets from each other," she takes a deep breath before finally saying, "you've changed."
"And you haven't?" I ask her gently, my hand hovering over near her shoulder, just out of her sight.
"At least I can still recognize myself when I look in the mirror," she spits out in an attempt to hurt me more than I'm hurting myself already. My hand falls back down to my side, knowing she'd just brush it off anyway.
She turns and storms past me, not daring to look me in the eye as she opens my bedroom door, "move out day is today. I hope you're happy."
I listen to her stomp down the stairs and out the front door, not bothering to say anything to my parents.
I slowly fall back onto my bed, tears stinging the back of my eyes. I swore to myself I'd never hurt her, that I would protect her, take any pain that may have been directed at her. And here I am being the one to cause her pain.
