For the first time in a year, I didn't dream. No Kol to tell about my day, just blankness from the time I went to sleep to the time I woke up.

Why did I miss it?

It took me a moment to realize someone was holding my hand, theirs warm and strangely familiar.

Slowly, I managed to sneak a peek at the person, even though it felt like my eyelids weighed a million pounds.

"Hello Angel."

"Kol?" I had to blink several times, the remnants of sleep threatening to drag me back under. "What happened?"

"Nature's soulmate bond isn't meant to be shared by an interspecies relationship. A werewolf and a werewolf, sure. A vampire and a vampire. But not a vampire and a human."

My gums hurt. "What does that mean."

"The moment I touched you, fed on you, the bond tried to reject it." He couldn't seem to hold eye contact. "It nearly killed you."

"Kol. What did you do." My stomach churned. No. Please no.

To his credit, he did look like he regretted it. "I'm sorry, Darling. I know you didn't want to be a vampire, but I'd rather have you angry and alive than dead."

No no no.

It wasn't until he brushed away tears that I realized I was crying. How could I when I felt so numb. I wasn't ready to be a vampire.

I wanted Jeremy. "I- I need to get out of here."

Kol caught me before I could go too far and set me back on the bed. "Afraid I can't let you do that. You're in transition and your friend Bonnie hasn't gotten back to us with the daylight ring."

"I can't be a vampire." I clutched on to his shirt, burying my head in his chest and cried. "I'm not ready."

He stroked my hair. "Don't worry, My Heart. Everything will be okay."

It wasn't going to be okay. I was forever stuck as an eighteen year old and Jeremy wasn't immortal, he'd die and I would continue to live forever.

If I'd known yesterday was going to be my last day as a human, maybe I could've done things differently.

"You're going to be feeling a lot of emotions, Drew. They might overwhelm you, I want you to just let it all out. Don't let them consume you."

"I don't know if I can do this Kol." What if I didn't complete the transition? Then at least it would be my choice.

He drew back, cupping my face in his hands. "You can Darling. I'll teach you everything you need to know about being a vampire. There's a whole world out there that you haven't explored yet."

"No. I mean, staying the same while my siblings grow old without me." Forever forced to drink blood in order to survive. I didn't want to turn out like Stefan or Damon. "I just need some time to decide and you're not exactly going to be unbiased."

"Decide? As in there's a possibility you may not-" He paused, smiling bitterly. "Right. I'll give you your space."

"Kol..." he was gone.

Great.

Now I wanted to cry again.

I got to my feet, weary of the affects dying might have on me. It was like I was aware of the very bones rattling around in my skin, the blood moving through my veins.

It itched.

The house was beautiful, though every window was covered, no sunlight.

Was this the place Elijah had been talking about?

I found Klaus in a sitting room, a sketchbook in his lap. "Hey."

"If it isn't the little escape artist." He didn't look up from his drawing. "How are we feeling?"

"What did you do to Jaime?"

"What I do to all my hybrids who disappoint me."

"Vague." Was he dead?

"Nothing you need to worry about, love."

I hesitated before sitting on an ottoman close by. "So you're not mad?"

He let out a huff. "We'll have that conversation when you're not in transition." Ah, so only being nice because he feels bad for me.

"If I complete it."

Klaus paused, his grip tightening on his pencil. "What?"

"I haven't decided yet."

He turned toward me, looking ready to say something else.

"Niklaus. No need for that. It is Drew's choice. We wouldn't want to make the same mistake as Father." Elijah stood at the front of the room. "As for you, dear sister-"

"I know, I know." I dropped back on the ottoman, staring at the ceiling. "Put myself in danger, shouldn't have done it, et cetera."

"You cannot take your safety lightly. Especially once word gets out revealing who you are. Our family has a vast network of enemies who will gladly come after the only vulnerable one."

"UGH. Why can't I go back to before Stefan ever showed his stupid vampire face. I didn't have enemies then."

Klaus got to his feet. "Enough with the dramatics. I think we all know you'll complete the transition. Even if I have to force blood down your throat."

Well damn.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're unnecessarily aggressive?"

Elijah chuckled. "It's been mentioned." He then pulled a ring out of his suit jacket. "Miss Bennett made this for you, should you want to go out in the daylight." I moved toward him, reaching out, only for it to be pulled away. "However, I don't trust you to use this without supervision."

"Are you serious?"

"And one of us will chaperone. Obviously my hybrids aren't up to the task."

I wasn't going to win this. "Fine." I grabbed the ring. It was odd that such a small item would be the thing to protect me from the sun. "You're so demanding."

"When you show me that you won't do something suicidal the moment my back is turned, I'll leave you alone."

"Unbelievable. You're supposed to be the fun one Elijah."

"Now who ever gave you that idea?" That was a new person. A blonde stood in the foyer. "I think it's time for me and my sister to get to know one another, you brutes can stew on your own."
