The fight

Elijah sat on the couch, a book he'd found in Alaric's apartment resting on his lap. I sat on the arm of another couch, wanting to intervene, but also not wanting to enrage Klaus further, I just had to watch as he drained a person of their blood.

"Do you have to.."

"If we hadn't been left down there, this wouldn't be happening." Elijah grabbed another blood bag, at least it was easier to see than what Klaus was doing.

"I'm sorry, okay? Is that what you wanted to hear? It's a lot harder keeping this whole thing a secret when you both keep stalking me. Now the group thinks I've been compelled!"

Klaus finally finished, dropping the body to the floor. "We heard sweetheart. Though I have to say, manipulating your friends into finding Kol for you was a bold move. I think you'll fit right in."

It wasn't all just to find Kol. "What are you going to do now?"

Elijah shut the book with a snap, setting it on a side table. Klaus merely smirked. "Oh I'll still get my revenge, but punishment shall come in different forms. You want to be a member of this family, there are consequences to betraying us."

"But they're my family too! I'm not going to just sit idly by and watch you hurt them." I crossed my arms.

Klaus clasped his hands behind his back. "You will, Love. Unfortunately for you, I have preparations to make, so you'll sit tight with dear Elijah and I'll come get you when it's all ready."

"When did you get all buddy buddy with Klaus?" I grabbed a pillow, chucking it at the proper original.

He caught it. "Since we were imprisoned together and he promised he'd be no threat to you for this... indiscretion."

"You can't just kidnap me and think they're not go into try and come after you guys!"

"Ah, but see that's the point. You're the bait. I already have my witches, all I need is a werewolf, a vampire, and a doppelgänger. Your friend group is chalk full of them." Klaus grinned.

"You can't kill them!"

"Try and stop me, sweetheart. My witches have already cast a boundary spell to keep you in and any unwanted guests out."

In an act of open defiance, I threw myself onto the cushions of my couch and buried my face in another pillow.

"Ah yes. She does have a flair for the dramatics. She'll do just fine." Elijah muttered to Klaus, followed by the sound of his book opening again.

"Keep her safe. I'll be back in a few hours."

I began to drift. When was the last time I'd slept?

...

"Hello Darling."

"Your brothers are irritating."

"What have they done now?" He quirked an eyebrow, an amused grin settling on his lips.

"Klaus is mad and now he's pushing forward with the sacrifice anyway." I huffed. What exactly did Klaus mean by punishment? "And Elijah's on babysitting duty."

"Niklaus is just trying to break a thousand year old curse placed upon him by our parents."

"Which I wouldn't mind if he didn't have to kill my sister and friends to do it."

"Don't worry, dear heart. I'm sure your friends will find a way to save precious Elena." He almost sounded bitter. "What do they have to say about your recent kidnapping?"

"They think I'm compelled. Which is utterly ridiculous, I was freaking wearing my vervain necklace when I was talking to Damon! They were treating me like I was dangerous, like I haven't gone through the same shit they have."

"And then what happened? Why are you with my brothers? The great Salvatores would never allow you near them."

"Well, when we trapped Klaus and Elijah, Klaus was still inhabiting Ric's body and then his witches pulled him back and he burst into the Salvatores house, broke a couple of necks and took me with him after he freed Elijah." Which, of course he did. I do have to admit, I did not expect Klaus to look the way he does. Definitely a Mikaelson. "He said I'll have to wait and see what he has for my reckoning or whatever."

"You've earned his ire. Nik may forgive, but he never forgets a transgression. This is why I wanted you to avoid him."

"Wait. Are you seriously making this an 'I told you so' moment? Bonnie would have died if I didn't step in."

"My brothers are a lot more dangerous than I think you give either of them credit for."

"Is this why you've been so adamant that I let Elijah find you?"

"I'm trying to protect you Angel. Don't you understand. I want you to be alive and well when I get back to the land of the living. That won't happen if you keep pushing Niklaus."

I stood. "At the expense of my family? My friends? I won't have any part of it Kol. I know how scary your brothers are, but I can't just let them die."

"Don't do this Drew."

He hadn't called me by my name in a long time.

Why did it bother me?

"No. I won't let Elena die because of some stupid curse. She doesn't deserve that and I can't lose my big sister."

I shut my eyes, c'mon wake up.

"Drew!"
