"Where's Kol?" Elijah appeared by my side.

"I think you enjoy scaring me, because this." I gestured to him. "Is a problem."

He even had on one of his fancier suits, if you could call it that. Tonight really was a special occasion. "Drew."

"Right, he's socializing like a good member of society." After our talk, Kol had gone off in search of a 'real drink' and was quickly cut off by the mayor, who'd been talking with him for the last half hour.

Which reminded me, I needed to drink blood soon. I'd been drinking as little as I could but after an incident involving greying skin, the Mikaelson boys had me on a strict three times a day schedule.

"I assume the two of you have mended things."

"You'd be correct, are you the next chaperone in rotation?" I wasn't blind to the fact that'd I'd been passed between the brothers this evening.

"Perhaps. You did tell Niklaus that you'd revealed to the sheriff and essentially the town council that you were a vampire."

"Okay, it was a moment of weakness when I thought I couldn't complete the transition." And I was more venting to the closest person to a mom I had.

Elizabeth Forbes had been my mom's best friend. She was there when I broke my arm the first time and she was the person I went to when Elena kicked me out so her and Caroline could have 'teen talk'.

"None the less, there might still be consequences to your actions. A hard lesson you cannot seem to grasp."

"Ouch." But fair. "I want to go talk to her so if you're going to stalk me, at least give me some semblance of privacy please." It was better to bite the bullet now that we were in a room full of people than later and potentially accidentally hurt the sheriff or she hurt me.

I wasn't exactly in full control of my strength yet.

"That's not a good idea."

"And you're the only brother who would even think about letting me do it, so I'm going."

He stared at me, jaw working. "Fine. I shall keep my distance. Should you need any assistance, I'll be able to hear your heart."

"Creepy, but I'll take it." That was easier than I thought, and I was actually a little proud of myself. No one was mad and I get a moment to breathe.

Elijah split away, presumably to be a good host.

The Sheriff was a surprisingly difficult person to find, but thankfully she was hanging near the outskirts of the crowd.

This conversation wasn't for everyone's ears. "Mrs Forbes!" I greeted her enthusiastically. As if she didn't know I'd become the thing she hated. "I didn't know you'd be coming."

"Drew?! Honey, are you alright? You had me worried sick and then you disappeared and even Damon didn't know where you were." She pulled me in for a hug.

Wait.

"I'm okay now, I promise." I pat her back. Why wasn't she recoiling at the sight of me? And did she say Damon? "I uh, I actually wanted to talk to you."

She pulled back, looking me up and down as if checking to make sure I was telling her the truth.

"That thing that I told you, did you tell the council?"

Mrs Forbes blinked. "What? No, god no. Me and Carol were brought into the know when you went on your trip. I'm sorry if I acted strange sweetie, it was just quite the shock."

"You knew?!"

She gave me a look. "My daughter's a vampire and the mayor's son is a werewolf. We were going to find out eventually. Caroline is horrible at keeping secrets."

I laughed, rubbing the back of my neck. "That makes sense." Well that's awkward. "I'm sorry I kind of dropped that on you and then ran."

"We all have our days. How are you doing with that guy. Hypothetically." She winked with a grin.

"Listening- probably."

Her brow furrowed. "Wait. He's one of them?"

"If by them you mean my family." Klaus threw his arm around my shoulder. "Then yes, didn't you tell her, mouse? Drew is soulmates with my brother."

I groaned. I swear. Klaus lived for the drama he created.

"What?!"

"Mrs Forbes, it's a lot more complicated than it looks." I rushed to say. The last thing I needed was for her to bring up anything I said in our previous conversation. "And it doesn't help when some of us share information that's best not to be shared."

Klaus chuckled. "Don't worry love, it's not as if she can do anything. The soulmate bond is ancient magic and it's something that cannot be undone."

"What are you doing here anyway, I thought it was Elijah's shift."

"It's hard to enjoy the party with your ability to get kidnapped."

"Okay, the majority of the time it's you, so I don't think it's an issue." I looked at the poor sheriff. She shouldn't have to suffer Klaus' flair because he's bored. "I'm sorry, sometimes my future brother-in-law can exaggerate a bit."

"Drew, can I talk to you? Outside." She glanced at the Mikaelson.

Would they let me go? "Yeah, you can go ahead, I'll find you." She nodded and made her way to the front door. "What was that? What happened to not telling anyone."

"I don't fear the sheriff." Klaus rolled his eyes.

"Well, thanks to your oversharing, I have to go fix it."

"You're not going out there alone."

"I'll take Damon then." The man himself had just entered the party, Stefan and Elena weren't too far behind. "Vampire, who knows how to control his speed and isn't a Mikaelson."

"I don't trust him."

"Take it up with Kol then." Hopefully with our discussion still fresh in his mind, he wouldn't be as overprotective. "I'm going. With or without a chaperone."
