Quarterback- Wallow

We met at the first game of the football season– Clayton against Saline. With several juniors and a sophomore, Lanz, just joining varsity, the team was a complete mess. With a rough quarter behind them, Coach Miller wouldn't allow losing at the start of the season. He lost control and suddenly demanded you to "GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER! WE CAN NOT AND WILL NOT LOSE THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON!" You didn't seem to know what to do. The other team's defense was too strong and many players began rushing at you. How could you throw the ball? My football illiterate ass threw a backup ball and screamed, "Find an out and run for it!" To be honest, I only said that because Coach's rambling got annoying. Either way, my know-nothing ass got your athletic brain cells to start working and scoring touchdowns. The game ended 31 to 26. Coach was elated of course. Looking back, it's funny how a random junior got the football team's star quarterback to get his head in the game. I mean, without me... you would have gotten an earful from Coach.

After the game, we didn't talk. You were busy celebrating with your team and friends. Meanwhile, I was busy congratulating my friends on the football team. Not to mention, I had to get to my car without losing Kaia in the crowd. After reaching my car, I and Kaia went to Bubbas to meet with Bia. Once we got there, I saw you again. It baffles me how you got there.
It was like fate.

Bia got a table and weirdly enough, it was the one next to yours. Ka winky dink? I think so. I sat down on one side of the booth as Bia and Kaia sat on the other. You being as smooth as you are, you slid right out of your booth and into ours, situating yourself right next to me. That caught me off guard and instead of getting greeted with a "Hi", you were greeted with a "Who the f?" instead. That didn't phase you as you gave me, Bia and Kaia, a proper greeting. "Hi, I'm Theo. You probably know that. Anyways, uhm thanks for what you did at the game," you rambled. I sat there trying to comprehend where you came from and why you just sat next to me. "Umm... Hi, I'm Athena and you're welcome I guess. I'm sorry for throwing a ball at your head by the way," I finally replied. "Apology accepted, but that was a hard throw. You have a good arm for almost knocking me off my feet like that."

We were a group of friends that have known each other for a lifetime. You learned more about Bia and Kaia as I got to know your friends. We joked and laughed the entire night until Bubbas closed. A regular Friday night mixed with an impulsive decision turned into a new routine and new friends being made. You won the start of the season; I won a new friend in the most unusual way.
