Old Sheriff Riley

After I calmed myself down and stopped crying, Sam talked to me.

"Are you feeling okay?" She asked weakly, as if already knowing that was a stupid question.

"No!" I snapped harshly. Technically, I wasn't angry at Sam or at Tara. I was mostly angry at our parents. Especially, our mother, for causing all of these problems for us. "My own twin sister hates me now."

"I'm sorry, Zo-"

"You don't have to apologize to me, Sam," I sniffled, wiping my eyes. "Really, it's fine. This one isn't actually your fault. Tara deserved to know sometime soon. Her reaction was understandable."

"You're right," She agreed, nodding. "I talked to Richie about what we should next."

"And? What are we going to do?" I wondered.

"We're going to need an expert," Sam answered. "And I only know one person who's been there for all of these Woodsboro murders. He's the only one still remaining here in this town."

It clicked to me who she was referring to.

"You're not talking about...Dewey Riley, are you?"

"Yeah, I am." Sam replied with confidence as if she knows Dewey had all the answers.

"I don't know about that, Sam," I shook my head, unsure about it. "Dewey is...a different guy. He's changed and had it rough these past years ever since him and his wife got divorced and he retired. He pretty much isolated himself in a trailer after that and prefers to be left alone. Doesn't even have visitors," Then I added as a second thought. "Except for me."

"Why you?" Sam was curious.

"When Dewey was still the deputy, he was, like, one of the nicest and good cops ever. He helped me at times. We knew each other because Judy is friends with him and would stop by at the house sometimes. We got along from there," I explained. "He really likes his privacy."

"He's our only hope to help us with this, Zoey," Sam insisted. "We have to give it a try."

I sighed, not sure how well this would go. "Fine. I'm in. But don't say I didn't warn you."

The next day early in the morning, I gave Richie the directions to Dewey's trailer since he was driving me and Sam. On the way there, I was texting Dewey to notify that I'm coming to see him. Other than Judy, Dewey was the only cop who I actually really liked.

It sucked that the police had made him retire when he already was at his lowest. He protected this town when it had the worst cases of the Ghostface murders. Dewey completely changed after his retirement.

I took out my phone out of my purse and texted Dewey.

That's all what I texted him. I'm sure he was really curious and even freaked out what I meant.

I've gotten close with Dewey Riley as friends when he used to hang out a lot at Judy Hicks's house. Dewey and Judy were good friends since they were both on the police force back then. And when I was best friends with Wes, I'd always hang out at his house with him. I'd see Dewey there too and he was always so nice and friendly. Sure, he was going through a hard divorce, but he masked his pain about it well whenever Wes and I was around. Dewey and I talked to each other and got along great.
