Boboiboy got kidnapped when he was 5 and he was experimented on, while being experimented he recieved the dark/lunar element. When he was 9 he escaped and spend 1 year becoming human again while training his powers. When he moved to his atok's he made a vow to not use his powers.
When he got the elemntal powers he used them instead.

But one fateful day when they got a mission to infiltrate a laboratory because of their experiments, it was the same labaratory where boboiboy got experinented from.
And because of the trauma in that place boboiboy lost control of his dark/lunar powers in the mission and his friends were shocked they thought he unloked a new element but the scientists realized it was the boy that escaped from them.
Because of losing control he accidently killed everyone and when he realize what he's done he killed himself.
