Shadow's Pov
A month has passed since my name was cleared, and things haven't changed that much. The most notable change was I officially became the new commander of G.U.N. I only accepted under the terms that I was only at headquarters if my presence was absolutely necessary.
More important to me was how my personal life had changed. Maria is now my girlfriend and is helping me raise Silver. She keeps trying to get him to say her name, but I have been trying to teach him something as well.
Today, though, I had a plan. A plan to improve things, if all went well. I waited till it was getting late, then put my plan into action. "Hey Maria, can you come with me," I asked her. "I want to show you something special." She was a bit confused, but she went along anyway.
I led her to a big clearing in the forest not far from the apartment. I grabbed the guitar I hid behind a tree and played a note, causing dozens of fireflies to come out. I couldn't help but smile when I saw Maria and Silver looking at them, their eyes full of wonder. I then started playing as I sang my heart out.
"When the sun had set, and the winter came. And the sky fell, only to bring the rain. I sat in darkness, all broken-hearted. I couldn't find a day I didn't feel alone. I never meant to cry, started losing hope. But somehow, baby, you broke through and saved me.

By the time I had finished, I was on one knee and Maria had tears in her eyes. "Maria, the day I lost you was the worst day of my life," I told her. "Once I got you back, I knew I wasn't gonna lose you again. I also knew that I couldn't ignore my heart any longer. I love you Maria, and I don't want to know a day where you're not beside me. Maria, will you marry me?"
It was silent for a moment before she Gave me her answer, "Of course I will, Shadow." We kissed for what felt like a lifetime, then decided to stay and watch the fireflies. It was quiet for a moment, before Silver finally spoke.
"Mama," he said as he looked up at Maria. Yes, I knew I could teach him to say it. The fact that he chose to say it now was perfect, as Maria gave him a big hug. She looked like she wanted to tell him something,but looked at me as if she needed my permission, which I gladly gave her.
"Yes, Silver," she told him. "Mama's here." As I pulled my fiance and son into a big hug of my own, I couldn't help but have the biggest smile I ever had on my face. I'm the luckiest hedgehog in the world. This is perfect, this is all I need in life.
