chapter 21: the world turns dark

I sigh out in frustration slamming my laptop lid closed throwing it on the other side of my bed.

"Surprise surprise no anwser" I roll my eyes and stand from my bed and move towards my door.

I make my way down the stairs and into the kitchen.

I take out a cup from the cupboard and slam it on the counter harder than I wished to cringing at how aggressively I put it down.

"You okay bean" questions my mum from her chair at the table a look of concern on her face as she looks up from the papers scattered around her.

I spin around and lean on the side behind me letting out a long sigh as I look at my mum.

My mum takes that as a sign and makes her way over to me wrapping her arms around me in comfort.

"Talk to me baby" my mum whispers out softly as she strokes my hair.

" shes still not contacted me mum it's been 4 months since she contacted me 4 goddam months, the last text I received was on skype saying happy 18 and then after that shes been radio silent ignoring every text,call hell even emails and letters" I admit in disappointment and sadness to my mum wrapping my self tighter around her.

"I'm just really worried mum Brian's said hes only had occasional text but even then he said their basic saying shes safe and that's it, I contacted jakob ages ago he said she moved out making me worry more" I breath in trying not to cry.

"How about letty and dom what have they said"my mum ask moving to lean against the counter beside me her arm still wrapped around my shoulders.

"They pretty much said the same as brian but they recieved a few very short calls on unknown numbers from her... both have tried to find out where she is and what shes doing but they found out nothing all they are assured of is that shes safe" I say my voice breaking as I choke back the anger and sadness.

I look at my mum she has a look of deep thought written on her face.

"I dont know what to say as long as dom and letty are sure that shes fine theres nothing we can do unfortunately.... mabey let her have this time and focus on something else" my mum says in an attempt to give me some sympathetic encouragment with a small smile.

This only makes me feel bitter but I sigh to my self and decide that my mum is right.

" your right I've got courses starting soon and have to focus on that" I say heartily.

"Thats my girl" my mum gives me a squeeze and moves back to her seat her head down I concentration as she continues her work.

"Need any help" I ask as I pull out a chair and sit across from her.

"That be amazing could you sort those 2 folders into date order " my mum replies giving me a smile of appreciation before returning back to her paper.

The next day

"Have you got all the folders"i question my mum as she walks over to her car.

"Yes mum now come give me a hug I'm running late" my mum laughs ushering me over with her hands.

I jog over from my bike and give my mum a huge hug.

"Be safe okay especially on your way back you know what the roads are like at night and you better let me know when you get to work" I instruct my mum shutting her car door after her.
