Ellie's POV
It was about 8:45 p.m. and we were on patrol, I was riding Shimmer, with me there were Joel and Tommy, each one on their horses
"So now are we returning home?" Tommy asked to Joel
"Well actually yes, we're done here" Joel Replied
"Good, 'cause I'm pretty tired" I said
"Are you tired? But you didn't do anything, how can you be tired?" Tommy said
"I didn't do ANYTHING? Are you getting blind or what? I saved your ass twice Tommy!" I replied
"Ha-ha I was fucking with you Ellie!" He burst out laughing
"Better for you that it was a joke" I said chuckling
"The one that didn't do anything was Joel, he was just shooting and hiding" Tommy added
"I pretend I didn't hear, Mr. 'I get my ass saved by Ellie' " Joel said
"Come on but don't you two have a sense of humor?" Tommy replied
Then it grew the silence
On the way home I was a bit sad, I didn't speak that much, but I was trying to hide it. Still thinking about Phil, even after many years that I lost him.
I still had one of his drawings of me that he had given me many years ago, he was really good at drawing, I think that if it weren't for him, I wouldn't have enjoyed drawing.
Joel noticed that I was different than usual, for him it seemed that something was wrong with me.
"Hey Ellie, what is it?" He asked a bit worried
"Nothing, just tired. . ." I said
"Uh-uh I don't believe you, there's something" He replied
"Well- really there's something but it's not important. . ."
It grew the silence but Joel broke it immediately saying
"You still think about him, isn't it?"
At first I didn't say anything, it just burned me inside remembering of Phil. But then I said
"Uff- I just feel like it's my fault, we shouldn't have left him there"
"Ellie, listen to me, he was dying and we couldn't take him with us" He said
"No fuck, we had to! We could have saved his life" I said sounding irritated and with my eyes starting to get wet
"What difference does it make? He would have died anyway" He replied to me
"Alright guys, please calm down!" Said Tommy trying to calm down both me and Joel
"Yeah Ellie, Tommy's right" Said Joel
'Pff, fuck it' I thought
I would have given and done anything just to be able to see him again, but in these cases hope does not help so much.
