The road was smooth. Yet, every now and then, little bumps caused the car to jolt. It wasn't much of a terrible drive, though. Within a couple of hours, they'd be within city limits and able to stop by and return the car before it got too late.

Still, it was a bit of a boring ride, especially after the radio began to play repeats.

"Ugh, not this one again," whined Peter. He threw his head back and slumped in his seat. His hands gripped the steering wheel as he quickly returned his sight to the road. The last thing he needed was for (Y/n) to remind him for the hundredth time to look straight ahead.

(Y/n) sighed and turned onto her side to face Peter. "We're almost there, just got to hang in there."

"Easier for you to say; you aren't the one driving." He looked at her only to see her raise a brow. "Look at the road. Right."

She chuckled. "I get it. You can't keep your eyes off me, I know, but you got to remember to keep focus on the road."

"Yeah, can't stop staring at how funny-looking your face is," joked Peter. He laughed and continued steadying the wheel.

(Y/n) rolled her eyes. "Well, geez, don't have to point it out like that." She turned away and looked out the window.

The car got quiet and the sound of the cars rushing past only grew in volume to fill the silence. Peter took a side glance at his friend and his smile began to fade.

He hoped he didn't hurt her feelings but, at the same time, it was best if she thought he wasn't interested. If she knew he liked her anymore than a friend, Peter worried she'd leave him. This was the closest he's gotten to someone that he felt comfortable with. He didn't want to ruin what he built with (Y/n); it was too soon to even risk.

After moving his eyes to the girl and the road, back and forth, Peter sparked an idea.

"Hey, (Y/n)," he asked, breaking the unbearable silence.

   "Hm?"

"How about we stop somewhere, you know, use the free rental to treat ourselves to something?" He smiled, revealing his perfectly white teeth accompanied with his naturally rosy cheeks.

(Y/n) turned to look over her shoulder. Her heart began to patter within her chest at the sight. Lately, she had felt herself slipping whenever Peter was around. His good humor and enthusiasm was not only contagious, but addictive. She couldn't help but feel the corners of her mouth softly curl.

"Why would we need to do that for?" She asked. "Where could we possibly go anyway?"

Peter shrugged and gave his attention back to the road. "I mean, I think we have enough reason to celebrate? We broke into the fuckin' Pentagon! Who does that? Oh, that's right, we did." He laughed, clearly proud. "So, we can go wherever the hell we want."

She thought about it, weighed the situation. Of course, she was already risking it by creating the illusion that she was at home for her parents. If needed be, (Y/n) thought she could keep up the trick for several hours longer.

Not only that, but she was off from work for today, as well. As for the rental, it just had to be returned by the end of the day before the place closed, which they had time to spare. The car dealership closed late that day, around nine o'clock.
