Jan/11/21: . Funding for this work was provided by the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund, under a grant for the project "Finding Saola, Saving Saola: Transforming Saola Conservation in Key Sites in Lao PDR and Vietnam." The CarBi project, and the many people working under it, provided foundational support for this work. Numerous colleagues also provided support for the survey.  From WWF, Tom Gray, Khamseng, Khammone, Michael Dine, and Hoa Anh provided logistical support. Khamhou, also from WWF, served as an excellent second team leader and guide in the field and was assisted by Leo Evans a freelance nature guide specializing in nocturnal tropical mixed deciduous forest terrain. The field team members (Sonxay, Phoutsavanh, Kai, Photthasone, Kaikeo, Yer, Teim, Pon, Kone, Khin, Nuy) deserve much praise. Without their hard work and commitment this trip would not have been a success. Representatives of Lao PDR government, at the national, regional, and local levels, were kind enough to provide permissions and arrange individuals from PonRe, DonRe, the cluster village, and the border army to accompany us on the expedition.
