(Author's note: sorry for taking long to update, there was a beautiful star that I couldn't take my eyes off of 🥰)
When Kaveh was receiving his payment, Alhaitham decided to slip out of the scene. He took a separate route home and arrived first. He left the door unlocked for Kaveh and let out a long sigh, thinking about how stupid what he said was. He might've blown his only chance. He picked out an interesting book and started reading it to kill time.
A few minutes later, Kaveh came in, throwing his cape on the chair. "Why did you have to leave like that?" He asked. "I almost got lost."
"But you didn't. You act like you don't know your way around Sumeru city–"
"Yes but you can't expect me to know it like the back of my hand and have every street memorized," he shot back.
Alhaitham put his book down, observing Kaveh's angry expression. "Why do you love arguing with me so much?"
"I don't!" Kaveh said with a light laugh. "You're the one who always starts and you just come at me for no reason."
"No, I don't?" He raised a brow. "Do I?" He thought. "You're taking this too seriously."
"Ugh, you might as well call me sensitive."
"That's not what I meant. You're putting words in my mouth."
"Well, whatever. It doesn't matter. I'll be moving out soon anyway, and I won't bother you again. Happy?"
Alhaitham said nothing. He skimmed over his book without actually reading. Why was it so hard for them to get along?
"Argh! I'm still sweating buckets from that dress...I'm going to shower," Kaveh said and left.
Unable to stand the weight of the book in his hand, Alhaitham put it down and stretched his arms. He walked around the house and paused when he caught a glimpse of something shining inside Kaveh's bag. It was a pouch full of Mora. The compensation he'd been given after the play.
Kaveh let the cool water run down his back, washing the day's stress away. Even though Alhaitham made him angry and pushed his buttons, he couldn't shake off what happened at the stage. It felt way too real to be fake but if it was real, why was Alhaitham denying it? Should he make the first move?
He brushed his hair back, raising his head up. He closed his eyes, reliving the kiss they'd shared. He raised a finger to his cheek where Alhaitham had touched him. The way he held him was too passionate to be fake but nothing was making sense. He desperately wished he could read his mind.
He laughed, realizing how silly he was for overthinking what happened. "It was literally an accidental kiss, Kaveh," he thought to himself and turned the shower off.
He dried the tips of his hair with a towel, squeezing the water out. Looking out the window, he could see that it wasn't too late to go searching for a new place to stay. He got dressed and grabbed his bag, sliding it over one shoulder. It felt oddly light. He opened it and took a look inside. It was empty.
"No..." Kaveh said. He swung the bag over, tapping its bottom to knock everything out of it. "Haitham!" He walked into the kitchen where he found him.
"Hm?"
"My Mora, it's all gone!" Kaveh said, showing him the bag.
"...How?" Alhaitham asked.
"I don't know...did I drop it? Did someone steal it?" He asked, walking in circles. "Ohh, even if I dropped it, someone must've found it by now. I'm such an idiot–" He slapped his forehead.
"It's not your fault," Alhaitham said, stirring some vegetables.
"No, it is! What am I going to do now?"
"You can just stay."
Kaveh rested an arm on the counter, furrowing his brows. Alhaitham couldn't help but feel bad for him.
"I already caused you enough trouble," Kaveh said, glancing away.
"Don't be stupid. I said you can stay."
"Thank you, Haitham...seriously," he said and placed a hand on Alhaitham's arm.
Alhaitham held his breath and continued to stir the food. He kept a straight face despite what he was feeling. "You should go rest. You practiced all night and woke up early, and had a long day."
"Okay, you're right," Kaveh said and gave in to a yawn.
"On the bed," Alhaitham reminded him.
"Alright, fine!" Kaveh accepted because he couldn't risk getting more back and shoulder pain.
He went into Alhaitham's room. It was the first time he'd gotten to examine it well. The decor was even uglier than the living room. He laid down on the bed and made a mental note of fixing the triggering mess of the furniture.
A few hours later, Kaveh woke up with a fleshing amount of sleep. He rubbed his eye and looked out the window. The moon in the sky indicated midnight but Alhaitham was still not in bed. Or was he sleeping on the couch again? Kaveh didn't know but he hopped out of bed and took a last look at the state of the bedroom before starting to move things around.
He had the perfect picture in his mind of how everything could be set up. He pushed the bookshelf to one corner of the room, making sure to be quiet just in case Alhaitham was asleep. He fixed the covers and changed the location of one of the paintings. He picked up all the books on the floor and under the pillow and piled them in his arm so he could stack them into the bookshelf.
The order was bothering him so he took them all out to reorganize them in alphabetical order. He slipped one of the books out and froze when he saw what was behind it. It was the pouch of Mora. His Mora. The book in his hand dropped to the floor in a thud. He checked the Mora, it was all there.
"Are you good? I heard some—" Alhaitham opened the door, looking inside. His jaw dropped and he watched Kaveh slowly turn to face him.
"What's this?" Kaveh asked, waving the pouch around.
