Haitham?"

"Yes, Kaveh?" He said, still holding him.

He lowered his head and gathered his courage. "So, I've been wondering, you know how you kissed me on the stage? You said you were only playing the role–"

Alhaitham gently lifted his chin, locking eyes with him. "It was real. I just couldn't bring myself to say it because I didn't think you would like me back."

"Are you kidding me? Of course I liked you, I even kissed you first," Kaveh said.

"I thought you only did it because the director said to."

"No, I did it because I wanted to. That just happened to be the perfect opportunity. I was always attracted to you…and if you weren't so rough around the edges, I would've kissed you sooner."

"Could say the same for you," Alhaitham said.

"Alright, alright, I have to go now," Kaveh said. He pressed a kiss on Alhaitham’s lips and pulled away.

"Where do you think you're going?" Alhaitham asked.

"Don't worry, I'm just going to look for a job!" Kaveh said. He fixed his hair and went into his room to grab his bag while Alhaitham followed him.

"Just work at the Akademiya," Alhaitham said, "I'm sure they could use someone like you."

Kaveh pursed his lips. He hung his bag over his shoulder and hesitated. "I used to work with them but they fired me."

"How come?"

"I got into an argument with one of the students and then they blamed me for tampering with their grades…"

"Why am I not surprised," Alhaitham shook his head.

"I didn't mess with their grades! They framed me!"

"I know," Alhaitham rubbed Kaveh's cheeks, calming him down. "What doesn't surprise me is you getting into arguments with everyone."

"Well, I can't let some teenage slouch insult me, can I?" Kaveh said, raising his tone as he recalled all the things some students called him.

"Of course not," Alhaitham agreed. "Wait– they insulted you? What did they say? What was their name?"

Kaveh sighed and shrugged. "Don't know, doesn't matter."

"Yes it does, let's go." He grabbed Kaveh's hand and marched out of the room.

"W-where?" Kaveh asked.

"To the Akademiya. I'll convince them to give you back your job."

"Haitham, it's okay–"

"They can't just fire you for something you didn't do. Who do they think they are?" He stormed out of the house, leaving Kaveh with no choice but to go after him.

"Haitham, wait!"

Even though they were around the same height, Kaveh still had to walk faster than usual to catch up with Alhaitham who was making his way to the Akademiya. Once they were there, they requested to speak with someone and waited.

Kaveh flipped through a random book out of boredom. "Pfff," he said with a smirk.

"Did you say something?" Alhaitham asked him.

"Hm? Oh– no, this author just doesn't know what they're talking about. I'm getting embarrassed for them just by ready this."

"Alhaitham?" A supervisor at the Akademiya said, "they're in the study room all the way at the end, you can go talk to them."

"Thank you," Alhaitham said. He told Kaveh that he'll be right back, and left. On the way down the hall, he could've sworn he heard some noise in the other room but he brushed it off and kept going.

Ten minutes in, Kaveh was already a few pages into the book he was reading when all of a sudden, it was knocked out of his hand.

"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry," a young man said. He leaned down, picked up the book and handed it back to Kaveh.

Kaveh fumbled with the book, almost dropping it again when he heard the voice. "Esan, what're you doing here?" He said.

"I go here, remember? Sir," Esan, his ex said.

"Right…" Kaveh turned the other way and pretended to be reading.

"It's been so long, no? Did you go back to teaching?" Esan said.

"No."

"You know I can tell them that what happened was all a misunderstanding. All you have to do is stop being stubborn and get over the fight already."

"Esan, you should really leave…" Kaveh said, nervously stealing glances at the corridor.

"Again, I go here. Secondly, why are you so nervous?" Esan said, squinting at him.

Kaveh rubbed the side of his neck. The last thing he needed was his ex bumping into Alhaitham. He slammed the book shut and placed it back in its spot, then walked away.

"Hey, where are you going?" Esan asked, grabbing him by the arm, "relax, I just wanna talk."

"No, you don't want to talk. You want to argue," Kaveh said.

"Baby, you're the one who always starts these arguments, see?"

Kaveh gulped and looked behind his shoulder. "Don't call me that again."

"Please, let's just talk about this! Everything would be so perfect if we worked things through. We can go back to our old days…you, teaching…me, paying attention to you."

(Author’s note: yes he's above 18)

Looking into his ex's eyes, Kaveh could remember everything. He glanced away and collected his thoughts. "You should really leave–"

"I'm saying we have to talk. And you can't tell me to leave. You want to work here again, don't you? You can do that and be with me. Two birds with one stone, easy!" Esan insisted.

"Why don't you understand? We're not together anymore," Kaveh said.

"That's not what your eyes are saying. Look at me, I know you still love me. Just get over it already," he cupped Kaveh's cheeks and forced him to look at him.

"What's going on?" Alhaitham said behind them.

Kaveh shoved Esan's hands away and turned around. He stuttered when he couldn't find the right words to describe the situation. Before he knew it, Esan had stepped between them, stopping them from getting any closer.

"Back off," he said.

"Who are you telling to back off? Hm?" Alhaitham took a step forward, towering over him.

Kaveh watched both of them. His head was hurting from everything.

"Watch it," Esan said.

"What if I don't?"

"Wow, wow, wow," a librarian said, pushing them away from each other. "If you're going to do this, do it outside."

They glared at each other and Alhaitham nodded towards the exit. They started heading out of the Akademiya, a firm expression on both of their faces.

"Guys, wait– what do you think you're doing?" Kaveh said, catching up to them.

"Kaveh, do you know this guy?" Alhaitham asked.

Kaveh's stomach sank. He had to confront both of them now. "Yes…"

"Of course he knows me," Esan said, pulling Kaveh by his side and resting a hand on his waist.

"Stop touching my boyfriend like that," Alhaitham said and dragged Kaveh back next to him.

"Your boyfriend?" Esan snapped and let out a quick mocking laugh.

Alhaitham sighed and rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Kaveh?"

"Yeah?" Kaveh said. His eyes were fixated on the floor because he couldn't bring himself to look either of them in the eye.

"You have some explaining to do…"
