School started the day after hailey was sent to the hospital. Hayden still hadnt gotten over what happened to her, but he still went to school. The only people who knew what happened to her were some of the teachers snd the principal, but none of the students knew. When hayden walked into his history class, the teacher quickly brought his sister up
"Good morning class, hayden, how is your sister doing?" the teacher asks
"uhm, shes doing fine." hayden said with an uncomfortable tone
"what happened to her?" one of his classmates ask
"she has a bad fever, thats all" hayden says
"yeah right, she probably just doesnt wanna come to school" someone else says
"will you shut the fuck up? you have no right to assume whats happening to my sister so dont even try to open that mouth of yours" hayden says angrily
"hayden calm down" the teacher says "lets move on"
the teacher starts the lesson and the class is silent for the rest of it. Not saying one word. Hayden was stressed out, he knew hailey was awake but still, he was scared to lose her.
when his class ended, he walked in the hallway for his next class and he ran into the 5 people he least wanted to see.
"hey hayd-" matt starts
"shut the fuck up" hayden says angrily
"we just want to talk" chris says, holding his hands up in defense
"we understand why youre mad but we can expla-" nick starts
"no! i dont want to hear your shitty explanation! nothing is gonna make up for my sister being in the hospital!" hayden blurts out
"woah! what happened?!" nick asks worriedly
"she tried to kill herself because of what you guys did. If you ever took some time to really get to know her, youd know shes the most sensible person in the world, she suffered depression when she was 13 and shes suffering with it again, she loves gilmore girls and outer banks, she loves music, she adores animals, she loves sleepovers, she loves sunsets and sunrises, she wants to study in new york, she loves writing, she plays electric and autistic guitar, she wants to be an actor but also a journalist, she loves when people give her small things. Did you guys even know that? and now because of you she's in the hospital with a needle in her arm because of this stunt you pulled. So don't even try to talk to me or hailey because right now i'm resisting the urge to punch chris and matt. She liked you matt, and because of you she hurt herself, i hope you feel satisfied with what you have done." hayden rants, leaving and going to class
the friend group start talking over each other before matt comes to the conclusion
"we'll go see her after school, i promise"he says, leaving without his friends

Hailey felt so guilty about doing what she did, she hated making people worry about her. especially her family. She was thinking about all that happened, but then, a boy came up in her mind
matt.
deep down, she still liked him, but she forced herself not to. She was snapped out of her trance when she heard a familiar voice
"hey" a boy said, she looks at the doorway
the group of 5 were standing at the doorway, nick was the one who had spoke up. She looks away quickly as they walk inside
"uhm, are you okay?" matt asks, sitting down on the couch that was in the room
"like you'd actually care" she says lowly
"i do care! we wouldn't have come if we didn't care!" he says raising his voice
the room falls silent, matt felt bad for practically yelling at her
"sorry" he mumbles
"it's fine" hailey says
"can you just tell us what happened?" madi asks "because all of those things you said about just being exhausted wasn't everything"
hailey hesitates, but gives in. She tells them everything, from why and when it started, until now. They were all very understanding. Hayden had arrived mid-conversation. They all leave, knowing they had to give hailey and matt some time alone.
"soo" he says, walking over to her hospital bed
"yeah?" she asks, a sort of embarrassed tone in her voice
"you're a simp?" he asks, a small chuckle in his voice
"are you a simp?" she asks looking at him with her eyebrows raised
"fair enough." he says, running a hand through his hair "do y- are y- fuck" he stammers, throwing his head back
"visiting hours are almost over so spit it out" she says with a small smile
"are you still into me?" he asks, putting his hand down from his head
"i guess so " she says with a dramatic sigh "are you into me?"
"i guess so" he says in a mimicking tone
"oop! look at the time! it's 9 pm, visiting hour is over! bye bye matthew bernard sturniolo!" she says with a straight face
"goodbye hailey claire heart" he says with a smile
"how'd you know my full name?" she asks confusedly
"im a stalker" he says sarcastically, leaving the room
