"Daddy?"

There was a pair of big brown
eyes sparkling at him in the dark
when Chan fluttered his eyes open,
a groan escaping him at the sight
of the current time.

It was only 3am but it wasn't the first
time this week that Jisung woke up
in the middle of the night.

"What is it, bub?
Can't sleep?"

"Mhm.."

And the little boy happily
crawled on his dad's bed,
or at least he tried before
Chan picked him up to help
him on the mattress.

He snuggled himself up to his
father under the blanket and sighed
in content when he rested his head
on his dad's chest.

Ever since he was a baby it had
always calmed him to listen to
his daddy's heartbeat.

Chan still remembered those
days as if it had been yesterday,
how he had sat in the rocking
chair close to the fireplace,
tiny baby Jisung sleeping peacefully
on his chest to the rhythmic sound
of his father's heart beating.

The little boy twitched his tiny
black furry ears cutely when his
daddy placed a soft kiss on top of
his head and hugged him closer,
knowing quite well that his son
loved the feeling of being
embraced tightly.

It made him feel safe,
he always slept better like that.

With his piggy plushie in
his arms of course.

"Daddy?"

"Hm?"

"Sungie love you."

"Daddy loves you so much too,
little one. Now sleep, tomorrow
is your special day, right?
We can have you be sleepy
there, hm?"

Tomorrow would mark five
years since Chan had found the
tiny sleeping boy on his doorstep
and since he didn't know Jisung's
real birthday, they'd celebrate
it on December 22nd.

Jisung didn't know his story,
he had never really
questioned it either.

Of course he had wondered why
his daddy didn't have cat ears and
tail like him but besides that the
little boy had always felt safe and
happy in his small family.

It was just him and his daddy,
it has always been.

The little boy woke up to someone
caressing his tousled black locks
gently and only whined and
pressed himself closer to the
comfy source of warmth.

"Good morning, my birthday boy.
My sweet baby kitten is already five,
such a big boy."

Chan cooed and kissed his son's
head when Jisung buried his face
in his dad's chest.
