Peregrine

A drawing of Raiden's wolf character, Peregrine, and his falcon. I really enjoyed doing this one. The hardest (and longest) part was doing the markings on the wing. :')

It's been a while since I shared the process of a drawing, so here you go! 

First, the sketch. (I used the 6B Pencil for the entire thing, if you were wondering what the brush was) I tried to capture Peregrine's shy but sweet personality, and all the textures—the fluffiness of his neck, the falcon's sleek feathers, and the bigger, softer ones on her chest. 

Next, the lineart. I love doing lineart, and this piece was no exception. Fur is always so much fun! I like to use nearly black for lines, with accents of deep red around the muzzle and edges. 

The third step is the flat colors. Peregrine's simple markings look so good; I love his design! The falcon took a bit longer, but I really like how she turned out. I used the same colors for both of them to tie the piece together—they have the same greys and whites, and the yellow around the falcon's eyes and beak is the same as in Peregrine's eye.

The shading is dark blue with hints of purple. I put the layer on Soft Light, which is one of my favorites for doing shadows. I also added some little accents of lighter colors in his fur. (A tip to remember: NEVER use black to shade!) 

Finally, they got highlights in their eyes and a bit of outlining, and I added my mark. Voilà! 

A detail from the falcon's wing and belly. The streaks and speckles were tough to figure out, but I think it ended up pretty well! I wanted to capture a peregrine's unique markings, but also simplify them enough to fit the style.
