Nyla shuffled nervously as she stood on the porch of her parents' house. She'd already knocked a few times. She's just waiting for them to answer. It was still a bit early, so they were probably still in bed.
She really hoped that they ain't file a missing report or anything like that. She did not feel like dealing with that.
A few seconds later, the doors snatched open by her mom with her hair nicely wrapped, a robe, pink slippers, and a gun in her hand.
"Don't shoot me, plea-"
Nyla didn't get the chance to finish her sentence before Ella pulled her into a hug.
"Where the fuck were you?" Ella asked, tears falling down her chubby cheeks as they rocked back and forth. She didn't know how to feel right now.
Ella takes a step back, pulling her daughter inside before locking and closing the door.
"Sit down while I go wake your father up. His loud snoring ass." She mumbles the last part to herself as she marched up the stairs.
Nyla got comfortable as she grabbed the remote and flipped through the channels. "That went better than I expected."
Settling with reruns of SpongeBob, Nyla picks up a pillow, cuddling it as she closed her eyes. Her eyes weren't closed for two seconds before she hears the loud steps of her father coming downstairs.
She peaked her eyes open then closed them back, pretending to be sleeping.
Feeling a familiar stinging pain on her forehead, Nyla leaps up to see her father staring at her.
"Why did you flick me?"
"Where the fuck you run off to like your ass got kidnapped or something?" Black questions, his hands on his hip as he waited for an answer.
"Well, I meaaannnnn." Nyla drags, looking off to the side as she scratched the back of her neck.
"What you mean by, well, I meaaannnnn? Ella, baby, go get my guns."
Without questioning it, Ella gets up, running up the stairs as fast as her short legs could carry her.
"NO! WE DON'T NEED YOUR GUNS! I'm fine. See."
Nyla stands up, spinning in a slow circle to show that she was indeed fine. Not a scratch on her body.
Black shakes his head, not hearing what his daughter was saying. "I ain't trynna hear all that, finna go light they ass up." He says, standing from his seat just as Ella came back down the stairs, cradling the guns in her arms.
"Get up, we going to find these-"
"No, we don't need to go anywhere. Can y'all just sit down and listen to me?"
Seeing the desperation in Nyla's eyes, they hesitantly take a seat and wait for Nyla to talk.

Meanwhile, Selene sits silently on the sofa of the room, twirling a pen in her fingers, watching as her parents argue about what color Selene and Nyla should wear.
The only thing on her mind is how she's going to bring up the conversation she badly wanted to have with them. You never knew what kind of reaction you were going to get out of them.
With a deep breath, she sits up, resting her elbows on her knees.
"CAN YALL SIT DOWN SO THAT WE CAN TALK! Everyone else leave the room, you're no longer need here." Selene yells making her parents go quiet and the servants nod before leaving the room.
Lilith and Than take a seat.
"What do you need to talk to us about, sweetie?" Lilith asks.
There's a moment of silence. Selene growing more nervous by the second, but she knew this would be her only chance to speak up.
"I don't want to take you guy's spot as king and queen."
No one says anything after that. The room was so quiet, you could hear a pin drop.
Noticing that they would say nothing, Selene takes the chance to explain why she didn't want to. But before she could usher out one word, her father gets up and leaves in disbelief.
Lilith remains in her seat for a few minutes, then leaves in a hurry to go find her husband.
Selene sits back against the couch, tears brewing in her eyes as she stares at nothing. At times like this, she wished she was just a normal being.
