The Austrian Empire stood, clenching his sword in his hands. His chest hurt, a large gash oozing blood like a waterfall. AE planned for both of them to die that day. There was no way he would live, regardless of whether or not ROE died too.

He wasn't even sure if he could live after this. He'd never had true peace before. During the years after Prussia's death, he lived in solitude, but it was ruined by the constant feeling of fear. AE had feared for his life, while also thinking he didn't deserve life.

"Your efforts to win are futile. I have all the power. I have all the control. You have nothing." The Roman Empire scoffed as branches and strands of dark power surrounded AE. Austria clenched his hands, letting out a breath that hung in the air for several seconds before he answered.

"You forget that with a simple touch, you can cease to exist in this world. You may have all the power, but you have little idea of how to use them. Whereas I, have all the experience I need." AE said.

He raised his golden hands, which cursed him from the day of his first kill. ROE tried to stop him, sending fire, lightning, anything to get the guaranteed death away from him. But Austria couldn't feel the pain anymore. His chest had gone numb. As did his legs. His arms. His face. His hands.

He grabbed the Roman Empire's arm, staring deep into his eyes.

"Checkmate." He whispered.

The gold spread.

"You-you... stop this at ONCE!" He roared, eyes widening, trying to pull away. AE let all of his rage pour into his hands, and the gold spread faster.

When AE obviously didn't cease turning him to gold, the Roman Empire launched himself at the gold and black country, intending to take him down with him. That just gave the Austrian Empire the chance to grab on to the floating wreath that started the whole problem in the first place.

ROE would be gone for good. The Austrian Empire smiled as the gold spread through their entire bodies. It didn't matter if he lived or died. It was over. Nothing would stop that.

And then his body was gold.

The British Empire limped over, putting out the fire with water. In the hissing remains, stood a large golden statue of the Austrian Empire and the Roman Empire in their final moments of death. Two new ghosts stood near them, glaring at each other. Then they started to disappear, along with all the other ghosts.

"It's about time I go, my friend." The Spanish Empire said before becoming nothing but empty air. More countries said their goodbyes as they disappeared as well.

"Don't go. You only just got here!" REC pleaded to the Portuguese Empire.

"Don't worry, I'll always be there. Even if you can't see me, I'll be there." PE said, his voice drifting off as well as his body.

Meanwhile, Bulgaria gave a single nod to the Dutch Empire, before disappearing much slower than his teleportation power.

The Swedish Empire and the Ottoman Empire hugged as SWE left the mortal world. The ghosts didn't stay for very long.

As BE smiled, knowing that they won, a burst of pain struck his back, and he knelt to the ground, panting. He'd almost forgotten about the stab wounds he had gained earlier from fighting GE.

Dried blood caked his uniform, and he was dimly aware of several countries surrounding him in worry.

"I'm fine. I'm fine." BE repeated, trying to get up.

"No, you're not. The Mongol Empire told me to tell you that you are going to die today." The German Empire said, appearing by his side.

BE groaned. "Shit. I didn't think... I mean I thought... I don't want to die!"

GE was silent for a few moments. "Is there anything you want to do before... you know..." He asked.

The British Empire thought for a few moments, looking at the sun hanging just above the horizon, visible even through the fading storm clouds.

"Take me to the ocean to see the sunset."

BE breathed in deeply, enjoying the crisp salty air. His heart beat slowly, in beat with the flapping wings of crying seagulls. The sun shone on top of the glistening water, casting an orange glow on the contrasting blue.

The Ottoman Empire waited nearby, not saying a word, before speeding away. He'd been the one to bring BE at the cliff's edge, being the only one fast enough to do so before his death.

Purple storm clouds gathered in the sky, yet the golden sun shone. In unity, it created the most beautiful thing he'd ever witnessed. He could finally rest, knowing that his enemies were gone.

Maybe there would still be more wars in the future. Maybe some other country would rise up and take control. But the British Empire didn't need to worry about that anymore.

When the breath finally left his body, he wasn't thinking about war, like he'd used to.

He thought about peace.

The End

Thank you so much for all the support throughout this story! I started this story back in June 5, 2022, and halfway through I decided to post it. I was not expecting so many people to fall in love!

In the future, I hope to do more AUs like this, but for now, I will take a break and work on animations! I also hope to someday rewrite this, as there are so many things I want to change and add! While I do have ideas for a Book 2, there is a low chance I'll actually ever write it, especially since half of the good characters are dead, and I may rewrite the book.

Finally, I will post some fun facts about the story, characters, and some bonus parts in the near future! Stay tuned!

With that being said, I hope you enjoyed the story! You guys are so awesome!
