Memorial Day

A/N: I wrote this tonight for a few reasons. The main reason though was because I'm tired of people seeing Memorial Day as a day for sales or BBQs or just plain relaxing. Men and women died for America and Memorial Day is in honor of them. Without them our freedoms would be nonexistent.

The day most people take as holiday

The day to BBQ, shop, and play.

Not seeing the sacrifice others made

Or the lives taken so the cost would be paid.

Lives taken in these places so unknown

On sand, dirt, even on stone.

In the struggle for freedom and the American dream

Fought the amazing and brave US team.

Our troops and soldiers struggled through strife

Just trying to make it to morning's first light.

A brotherhood that will be formed

And living together as the norm

They protect and serve us each and everyday

And honor those gone on this Memorial Day.
