I woke up to hear him on the phone. I looked at the clock seeing it change to 1:37 am. I walk out to the kitchen to see his face in his hands; elbows on his knees. We both knew what that call meant.

"John?" He looked up and sighed. "When?"

"Four." He said getting up and walking over to me. He pulls me close as this all sinks in.

"Should i wake the kids?" He pulled away slightly and nodded.

"We need to get ready." He pulled away and walked back to our room.

"Daddy? Do you have to go away?" Our 8 year old daughter asked.

"Yes, baby. I have to go help people."

"Are you going to miss Christmas again?" She asked with a little yawn.

John nodded and hugged our daughter. Someone shouted that it was time to go. John kissed our two daughters and son before hugging me and turning towards the buses. He turned one last time before leaving.

"BYE DADDY!!" Our son yelled.
