As a long-time DCIG fan, I am embarrassed to say that, after so long, I just learned about this
Fukuro is based on the Ainu god "Cikap-kamuy", the god of land and, fair enough, owls. Hence his species and power to create mountains in the game.
Ainu is the name of an indigenous... tribe? ethnic minority? in Northern Japan, so him being a snow owl of the Northernmost location in the game makes sense, too.
Man, they dug deeper into the lore than I first thought. Like, there's that detail about his gold-and-silver tears, which in turn became his ladles, or him being a gigantic owl times the size of normal ones, exactly like how the myth depicted, or him watching over Champion Island from the top of this mountain like the original god watching over all humans and other gods on land. I, LOVE, THIS.
