"Much better," Overhaul said when Rui entered his office. The boy was dressed in some of the clothes that he had left behind before he ran, and most importantly, they were clean. Dismissing the few subordinates that were still in his office, the young head of the hassaikai stood from behind his desk, rounded it, and made his way to stand in front of Rui.
As Rui looked up at him, Kai found no fear in his eyes. Well, less than he was expecting, at least. The look was curious and patient with a touch of nervousness to it. Rui didn't fear Kai, not really anyway. He wasn't afraid of his quirk, he wasn't afraid of the man himself, he was just a tad bit concerned about what he wanted to do with him.
Which was a valid concern, all things considered, especially as Kai's gloved hand gently gripped Rui's chin, one finger tracing his jaw as the others rested on either side. Rui felt his stomach flop uncomfortably, not particularly liking the situation, but he kept eye contact with the young leader all the while. "Did you get enough food while you were gone?" The man's voice was low as he spoke, tilting his head ever so slightly.
"Mostly," Rui responded.
"Good. I was worried since I know you're a bit of a picky eater," Kai mumbled, his expression softening as he released his chin. "Now, we have some things to discuss. Sit down."
"What's up?" The boy did as told, plopping down on the couch opposite of where Overhaul had moved to sit. He couldn't really see it, but there was a frown on the brunette's face.
"I was informed that entrance exams have already passed for high schools," Kai began, leaning forward with his gloved hands folded together in front of him. "I wanted to know if you would like a shot at high school, unless you are alright with your level of education as of now?"
"Uh, well.. the thing is.." Rui rambled awkwardly, his eyes darting around. "I may or may not have.. taken an entrance exam.. and gotten.. into UA high school.."
Overhaul's eyes immediately hardened at the name of the school, causing the boy to flinch at the sudden change. "You want to be a hero?" The question was asked slowly and delibrately, almost as if daring him to answer yes.
"It just turned out that way!" the brunette defended himself, raising his hands and shaking them desperately. "I actually thought the letter of recommendation was a trap by you so I almost didn't go, and apparently they want me in the hero course even though we both know my quirk isn't suited to heroing, but still.." He trailed off, his eyes almost--if not just--as firm as the person he was facing. "I want to give it a try. Please Kai," He bowed his head. "Allow me to go to UA."
"...You know how much I despise heroes, Rui," the young head's words were low and to the point, causing the boy's shoulders to sag even as he continued bowing his head pleadingly. "It's a disease, I've told you this. Why would I let you go anywhere hear such an infected place?"
"Because," he took a deep breath. "I can make connections! You wouldn't have to go around the heroes or be afraid of them, they could be on our side instead!"
"Do you really think," Overhaul's voice could almost be considered patronizing. "That I need your help in that area?"
"Of course not," Rui answered instantly. "But it would be a good fail-save, wouldn't it?! Plan Z if all else fails! Please Kai!" He implored desperately. He knew that if this didn't work, he'd most likely be forced to be under Overhaul's thumb, going to whatever school--if he even let him leave the compound--he wanted. The boy knew that this argument was anything but persuasive, so he could only hope against hope that Kai would be lenient to the person he l...liked..
Overhaul observed the boy in front of him, his eyes considerably narrowed. He didn't like Rui bowing to him. He didn't like when he couldn't see Rui's eyes, couldn't see his face. He also didn't like that Rui was trying to become even more diseased than he already was. Sure, his power wasn't all that much of an issue since it was basically being able to knock himself out without actually knocking himself out.
But trying to become a hero? The most diseased of the diseased? Overhaul did not think he could deal with that. But then he began to think better of it. Rui had said he wasn't actually planning on becoming a hero. Maybe he just wanted the permit of being able to use his quirk freer than he already did. As long as Rui did not try to become an actual hero, Kai figured he could live with it.
"I'll have a bathroom built at the front of the building," He finally said, causing the boy to look up, confusion written all over his face. The sliver of hope was all Kai needed to see to know he had made the right decision. "When you come back from UA, you have to shower every day and change. The UA uniform is not allowed out of that bathroom, understood?"
"Yes!" Rui exclaimed, his expression brightening instantly. "Yes, thank you so much!"
"I'm not finished," Kai rolled his eyes, but there was a smile on his lips under his mask. "In exchange for my permission," He refocused, causing Rui's face to fall from excited to serious along with him. "You will sleep with me every day and allow me to do as I wish with you."
"Uh," Rui blinked, his face flushing as he processed the request. No, it was more of a command, which made him blush further when he realized he really didn't have much of a choice. Overhaul watched this reaction, feeling content with himself for being the one to cause it. Then, after a moment of more floundering, Rui made eye contact with his current guardian.
"Okay, then please take care of me."
