"Does Penelope like you, love?"

"Yes, she likes me," Minerva replied as they sat in the carriage, traveling toward her brother's home later that evening. The men stayed home to chat with the woman and enjoy each other's company.

"As a lover?"

Minerva gasped. "Wh- no!"

"Then what did she mean by that 'hypocritical' statement?"

"Oh. I see. Well, I think Pen likes you."

Elijah scoffed. "Doubtful. No one likes me."

Minerva shrugged.

"Minerva," he growled. "Don't dismiss me."

"I told you she fancies you. What more do you want me to say?"

"And Alex fancies you?"

"It would seem."

"And we aren't jealous?"

"Should we be?"

"Most would be, but so long as you know you are mine - first and foremost..."

"Always," she said, cupping his cheek. "I love you, Eli."

"Hm. Not even married yet and want to have an affair."

"It wouldn't be like that..."

"No?"

"It could be just another part of our relationship."

"What if he doesn't want to share you as I do? With other men?"

"Oh. I suppose you and Alex can work that out."

"You are mine, Minerva. Mine. Alex will not be deciding..."

"You know that I agree with you. And I want you to be happy. I think Pen could help keep you satisfied, my lord."

Elijah nuzzled his face into her long hair as he sat her upon his lap. "I could live my entire life with just you, love."

"And I you. I would never ask or expect you to want a relationship...."

"Relationship? Is that what we would have?" he chuckled. "With another married couple?"

"If we all agree..."

"He will want you alone."

"So will she...you, that is. She will want you alone, too."

"He will fall in love with you."

"As will she."

"And we would return that affection?"

"If we desire to..."

"Would you leave me for him?"

"Never."

"Will you bear his children?"

"I-I hadn't considered that possibility...what if it happened?"

Elijah shrugged. "I don't know if I care so long as I have an equal opportunity to be the sire of a future duke..." he chuckled into her hair. "You know, Minerva, she isn't like you."

"I know."

"I would be different around her."

"The same with Alex."

"He seems more...nurturing toward you. Like you are a porcelain doll."

"And Pen seems to calm you with a single touch."

"Funny you mention that. It was instant."

"Mmhm."

"I love you."
