Chapter 17 - The road is long, we carry on

Arisu, Usagi, Tatta, Asahi and you entered the lobby, both Usagi and you supporting Arisu who couldn't even stand on his feet.

"I was confined by you this entire time, even when the murder took place. I'm sure you guys know I couldn't have been the Witch." He declared, staring at Aguni, who had just asked his minions to massacre everyone who dared opposed him, right in the eyes. Another redeeming quality - he was brave.

You couldn't help but look around, particularly at the top floors. You could see the lobby from their corridors, and most of the times you came from a game, Chishiya would be perched against the wall there, smirking at you. 

Just as he was now.

"Are you okay?" He mouthed, emitting no sound. He really did look worried. You nodded slightly. You were tired, sweaty, your throat felt scratchy from the smoke of the fire. But you were okay. Even more now that you had seen him, every single cell in your body filling with relief. You just hoped Kuina was also out of harm's way.

"If you aren't the Witch, there's no need to kill me. Please, cooperate with me and let's find out who the Witch is!" Arisu cried out, directly to The Beach's new king.

The man got closer. You couldn't help but take a couple of steps back. He had always been intimidating, and being the person responsible for a murder spree was not going to get him in your good graces.

You all looked hopeful, though, as his expression was calm.

Until he beat Arisu's face with the butt of his pistol, throwing him to the ground.

Screams filled the place, the more heart-wrenching being Usagi's, who tried to intercede as Aguni kept kicking him, now in the stomach.

"You are the Witch!" She screamed at him, desperate. "That's why you are kicking him despite him being the only one with an alibi!"

Aguni hit Arisu in the face once more.

You couldn't react. You were just standing there. You looked at Chishiya. "Stay out of this, please." His expression seemed to say, and you were happy to comply.

The militants' guns were now pointing at Aguni, taking Usagi's accusation as a fact. 

You took more steps back, not wanting to be near anyone who would fire a gun.

Aguni dropped his weapon and walked towards one of them, getting so close the man's gun was right where his heart should be. Another firearm was pointed at his temple.

"Shoot me." He simply said.

"Do it!" He screamed, face turning angry, seeing his words elicited no reaction.

Nobody moved, except all of you were shaking.

"Aguni's not the Witch!" Arisu yelled, mouth full of blood. "This is a ten of hearts game, it toys with people's feelings!" His voice lowered down. "You have another motive. The one you killed was not Momoka. You killed the Hatter."

You gasped, and put your hand on Tatta's arm to stabilize yourself, feeling like you were going to pass out. Your friend held you by your elbow. Arisu was explaining his reasoning, but all you could hear was a ringing in your ears. You breathed in and out, in and out, to stabilize yourself. That definitely was a plot twist you were not expecting. 

"Weren't the Hatter and you best friends in reality?" Was saying Arisu. "You wanted to stop him and his crazy ways. You wanted him to regain his senses."
