Chapter Nineteen

Dancing Unicorn

After walking through this forsaken forest for what seemed like an eternity, my feet were already beginning to ache. Every step I took felt like a hammer pounding against my soles. I miss Saphire, at least with her; I didn't have to walk.

"How far is this village?" I sighed, leaning against a tree for support.

Ava turned to face me, a smirk plastered across her lips. "Did Xavier wear you out?"

Oh, right, the sisters believe Xavier and I did the deed. We most certainly did not, but of course, Xavier didn't tell them that. So now, they think we, erm, made love.

How lovely, right?

Wrong.

Glancing over her shoulder, Kaylin shot me a death glare. Ever since finding out Xavier, apparently, got his willy wet, she has been ignoring me. This makes me wonder whether or not Kaylin is jealous.

Why would she be jealous?

"Ivory?" Ava waved her hand in front of my face. "You alright?"

I blinked. "Huh?"

"I said the village where we're headed isn't really a village, nor a town, nor a city."

Once more, I blinked. "Huh?"

The half-elf chuckled before running a hand through her dark hair. "It's a hotel."

"What is a hotel?" I asked.

My question caused Xavier to stop in his tracks. He was ahead of Kaylin. Turning on his heel, Xavier raised a brow at me. "Milady, should we be worried?"

"About what?"

"Your lack of knowledge?" Ava said, standing beside me. "How do you not know what a hotel is?"

I tried so fucking hard to keep a straight face, but I just couldn't. Laughter escaped my throat. "Ha-ha-ha! Look at your faces-ha-ha-ha! I can't believe you believe me! Ha-ha-ha-ha!"

Kaylin stared at me with a blank expression. Meanwhile, her sister, Ava, rolled her eyes.

Xavier's lips pulled upwards to form a grin. "I believed you, my love. How could I not? You are too beautiful."

I wanted to vomit.

"You did not seem too convincing," I told him. "Just because I have not been outside of Castle Zothera does not mean I don't know about the outside world."

"Could've fooled me," Kaylin mumbled.

"I read books, you know, they are found in libraries." I shot back.

The elf glared at me. "Romantic books?"

Again, I wanted to vomit.

"Why the fuck would I waste my time reading those sorts of stories? They are all fictional, over-rated, and unlikely to happen in real life." I rolled my eyes. "As a Princess, I have better ways of spending my time."

"Fictional? How so?" Kaylin asked, now facing me.

"You expect me to believe a knight in shining armour will come to my rescue, sweep me off my feet? Then fall in love with me? And we live happily ever after?" I had the sudden urge to punch the tree I leant on.
