Cheer to that

Sitting with my childhood,
I share stories next to the fire
Burning ever brighter.
I raise my cup and say:

Let's cheer to that,
Feeling your age and an infinite more,
The romans fell, as I fell to earth,
Claws and wings and hands at my back.

Dizzy of feelings,
Staring at smiles and pictures,
Promises craved by tears,
Remembering every second of you.

Let's cheer to that,
All the half-finished projects,
Souvenirs of forevers and always,
Ink and blood under your skin.

Time goes on and on and on,
Cards collect dust and predictions come alive,
Home is a strange dream,
Left at the doorstep, like a forgotten umbrella.

Let's cheer to that,
All the grief and hauntings,
Ghosts of the world, inhabiting space,
The quill is broken, a new chapter starts again.

We will leave our castle,
As leaves fall, as if to say goodbye.
Let sleep come and go,
As the plane and car start, chasing what's next.

Let's cheer to that,
All the "Adios!" we never said,
The regrets and all that could be,
The things we hold, the things we break.

The clock continues to tick,
Photos dress my wall of what ifs.
At the edge of everything,
A waterfall of stars and words.

So let's cheer to that,
To the past and all endings,
To the infinite, strange present,
And all that comes next.
