"Meera, calm down. It's okay. Take deep breaths. Look at me. It's okay if you reveal something like you aren't born of their blood or adopted. It doesn't matter a cent to me." I assured her, holding her closer and trying to calm her frantic heartbeat. She tilted her head and looked at me. Mirth danced in her eyes as she examined my face. She pulled away and laughed. Laughed hard. I kept looking at her with a blank face.

"Adopted...Haha...Stolen is the word" she said amidst her laughs, leaving me dumbfounded. Stolen? I held her shoulders, stopping her chuckle and she looked at me seriously.

"Continue from where you left the conversation," I demanded, wanting a clear picture of the situation. She closed her eyes as her face morphed into that of a sufferer in immense pain. As she opened her eyes the pain shook me to the core.

"Orphans at least know they don't have parents and adopted children know that their parents are not their real parents but absent from the picture. I am none of them. My life is void of even this clarity." Her words confused me.

"That night I went home jumping to meet my family. Oops! Wrong word. Jumping to meet the Kashyaps. It was a beautiful moment seeing them huddled up at the dining table having food, discussing their day with each other until I heard my name.
