Chapter 2

Jennie's POV

As I walked through the hospital corridor, the familiar hum of medical equipment and the hurried footsteps of nurses and doctors filled the air. I tried to focus on my work, but something kept bothering me.

"Hey, what's with that face Dr. Mandu?" Dr. Jisso asked, her voice breaking through my thoughts.

"Don't start with me unnie," I replied, rolling my eyes in frustration.

Jisso raised an eyebrow. "Why so grumpy, huh?"

"Dad hired another bodyguard for me," I muttered, crossing my arms over my chest.

"And what's wrong with that? He just wants to keep you safe," Jisso responded nonchalantly.

"Protected?" I scoffed. "He hired a girl bodyguard."

"Hmm, that's new," Jisso said thoughtfully. "But you know General Song-he wouldn't hire someone who's not capable. She must be extraordinary."

I sighed. "I just don't want another stranger around me all the time."

Jisso smirked, knowing I wasn't the type to ask for help. "Well, maybe you'll like her. Besides, don't forget, she's probably your new roommate, so you'll see a lot of her."

I groaned, leaning back against the wall. "Speaking of people, how's your Captain?"

I immediately tensed. "He's not my captain, unnie," I said irritably, rolling my eyes.

Jisso grinned mischievously. "Come on, Jen. He's been trying to court you for two years now. Have you given him a chance yet?"

"If it weren't for my dad, I wouldn't even bother with him," I muttered. "He's nice, sweet, but I just can't get myself to feel it. There's something missing. You know what I mean?"

Jisso shrugged. "Hmm, I don't know what you mean, but I say give him a chance. Maybe he's the one."

I shook my head. "Maybe... but not now. Let's just get through the day."

"Good plan," Jisso said with a wink as we parted ways.

Lisa's POV

The moment I stepped into General Song's house, I knew this was no ordinary assignment. The house was grand, elegant-like something straight out of a high-profile politician's residence.

"Are you ready, Lieutenant?" the general asked, his voice calm but commanding.

"Sir, yes sir!" I responded firmly.

"Did you read the agreement?" he asked, giving me a knowing look.

"Yes, sir. I'll follow all the rules," I replied, feeling the weight of the responsibility on my shoulders.

He nodded. "Good. Let's go then."

I nodded and silently followed him to the car, my heart pounding with a mix of excitement and nerves. This wasn't just any mission-it was personal, and I had to make sure I didn't let the Song family down.

---

When we arrived at the house, Mrs. Song greeted us at the door. Her warm smile immediately put me at ease.

"Honey, you're home," she said, kissing the general on the cheek before turning her attention to me. "Who's this strong young lady behind you?"

The general smiled proudly. "This is Lieutenant Manoban. She's the one I've been telling you about."

Mrs. Song extended her hand. "Nice to meet you, Lieutenant."

"Happy to serve you, ma'am," I replied, shaking her hand with a smile.

"Oh no, you're not serving me, dear. You're here for our daughter," she said, laughing lightly. "Come on, dinner is ready."

I followed them inside, feeling the warmth of their home. The table was already set, and the delicious aroma of food filled the air.

"Good, I'm starving," General Song said, rubbing his stomach.

"Lieutenant, once you've unpacked, join us for dinner," he added, before turning to his wife.

"Yes, sir," I replied, trying to keep my cool despite the nerves swirling in my stomach.

Mrs. Song looked at her maid. "Ms. Jung, please show Lieutenant Manoban to her room."

"Thank you, ma'am," I said, following Ms. Jung down the hallway.

"Welcome," Ms. Jung said as we walked. "You must be the new bodyguard for Jennie, huh?"

"Yes, ma'am," I replied politely.

"Well, good luck," Ms. Jung said with a knowing smile. "She's strict, but if you don't irritate her, you'll be fine."

I nodded. "Thanks, Ms. Jung. I'll keep that in mind."

After I settled into my room, I returned to the dining area. The Song family was already seated at the table when Jennie finally walked in. She looked exhausted but smiled when she saw the spread.

"Sorry I'm late," Jennie said, kissing her parents on the cheek. "I had two surgeries today, and it's been a long day."

Mrs. Song nodded sympathetically. "You must be exhausted, sweetie. Eat up, you've earned it."

Jennie's eyes lit up when she saw her favorite dishes. "Wow, it's all my favorite food! Thank you, ma'am," she said, smiling as she started to eat.

"I know you've been in the operating room all day," Mrs. Song said. "So I made sure to cook your favorites."

"That's so sweet, Mom. I love you," Jennie said, her voice soft and sweet.

Mrs. Song smiled warmly. "I love you too, sweetie."

At that moment, the general spoke up. "Lieutenant, this is my only daughter, Jennie Kim. From now on, I entrust her safety to you. So, better take care of her."

Jennie looked at me with a raised eyebrow. "Can she, Dad?" she asked, her gaze sweeping over my appearance. "I mean, she's tall and..." She trailed off, but her tone implied a hint of skepticism.

"I'll do my best to protect your daughter, sir," I said confidently, meeting Jennie's gaze.

Mrs. Song smiled at me. "Thank you, Lieutenant. Jennie means everything to us."

Jennie rolled her eyes. "I'm not a baby anymore, Mom. I can take care of myself," she muttered, but her tone lacked the usual fire.

"I know, sweetie," the general said with a chuckle. "But Lisa can do it better."

Jennie sighed, but continued eating. "Okay, fine. She's here now, so what can I do?"

She turned her attention to me. "Lieutenant, first, don't ever call me ma'am. I'm not your teacher, just call me..."

"Yes, doc," I interrupted quickly, earning a small smile from Jennie.

"Much better," she said, taking a bite of her food. "Second, don't wear that standard bodyguard attire-black suits and ties."

I blinked in confusion. "Don't worry, doc. I don't have that kind of outfit," I said, trying to lighten the mood.

"Good. But don't look like a college student either," she said, giving me a piercing look. "No slouching around in jeans and a T-shirt."

I gulped, feeling the weight of her gaze. "Got it, doc," I replied quickly.

"Then we're good," Jennie said, finally smiling as she dug into her meal.

Mrs. Song's POV

As I watched Jennie and Lisa exchange words, I whispered to my husband, "I think they're off to a good start, honey."

"I hope so," he replied, his eyes still on the two women at the table.
