Chapter 10

Soo Hee gently took Lisa's hand, her voice breaking with emotion. "You know I love you, Lisa. I really do. You're the only one who can make me happy, but it's been so long, and he's right there with me when I thought you were gone." Tears fell freely as she spoke, the weight of the years between them pressing heavily on her chest.

Lisa looked at Soo Hee with pain in her eyes, her voice soft. "But why didn't you wait? Did you ever see my body in the casket?" she asked, her heart aching at the thought of Soo Hee moving on without her.

"No," Soo Hee whispered, her sobs stifled by her grief. "I waited, Lisa. Everyone knew how long I waited for you to come back, to accept that you were gone. But it was too long. I had to let go."

Lisa's eyes flickered to the necklace around Soo Hee’s neck, where the ring once was. "The ring," she said with a faint smile. "You took it off?"

Soo Hee held up the necklace, her voice tender. "The ring is here, love. It’s always with me. You were the best thing that ever happened to me, and you’ll never be forgotten." She moved forward, pulling Lisa into a tight hug, their hearts aching in unison. She leaned in, as if about to kiss Lisa, but Lisa stepped back quickly, her eyes filled with hesitation.

"I'm sorry," Lisa said, her voice barely above a whisper. "We shouldn’t do this. You have him, and I..."

Soo Hee nodded, wiping her eyes as she tried to hide the pain. "I understand," she said softly. "You have Jennie now, don’t you? Do you love her?" She couldn’t keep the hurt from her voice, the raw vulnerability slipping through as she asked.

---

Jennie, watching from the rooftop, could feel the tension in the air. She stood there quietly, unable to tear her eyes away from the scene unfolding in front of her. She could feel the depth of the love between Lisa and Soo Hee, how their hearts still beat for each other, despite the years apart. The pain in Soo Hee's eyes mirrored the turmoil in Lisa’s, and Jennie’s heart raced for reasons she didn’t quite understand.

She wanted to turn away, to walk back down to her office, but something held her there, an invisible pull drawing her closer to the painful conversation she shouldn’t be witnessing. And then Lisa spoke, her voice steady but full of emotion. "Yes," she said quietly. "We don’t want to hurt our partners. It's not their fault about our past. They deserve our love. I’m sorry, Soo Hee, for everything that happened. I’m just so happy to see you again, and I’m grateful that there’s someone taking care of you."

Soo Hee couldn’t hold back her tears. She pulled Lisa into another embrace, sobbing against her. "I’m just so happy you're alive, Lisa. My heart never stopped loving you."

Lisa hugged her back tightly, whispering softly, "I know. And thank you. You’ll always have a special place in my heart, Soo Hee. But I think this is goodbye." She kissed Soo Hee’s forehead, her own tears falling silently as she pulled away. "Take care, love," Lisa whispered, leaving Soo Hee standing there alone, her heart shattered.

---

Jennie stood in the shadows, her heart racing. She had seen it all—the love, the pain, the years lost between them—and yet, when Lisa had said "yes," something inside her had jolted. Her heartbeat had quickened, and despite the sadness in the air, there was a part of her that felt… relieved. Why? Jennie couldn’t understand the feelings coursing through her, but she couldn’t deny that they were there.

---

Later, back at the hospital, Dr. Rose stopped Jennie in the hallway, a concerned look on her face. "Jen, I saw Dr. Han in the hallway earlier. She said she would reschedule the meeting, and she seemed really in a hurry. Hmm, she looked uneasy."
