I've died enough for You

The music stops and I step off of the stage again. I'm not really smiling but also not sad when I go back to the couch and sit back down next to Aleksi who immediately looks at me knowingly. He slightly leans towards me and whispers very quietly: "You can't do anything but provoke him, can you?". A little smirk forms on my lips and my gaze falls to the floor. He is right in some way. I didn't want to give up so easily and with that song I had the plan to stab him in the back again. But why shouldn't I? He completely destroyed me innerly with only a single song so why shouldn't I defend myself? Stay true to my mental setting.

Aleksi shakes his head unsuspiciously and runs his hand through his hair. "Okay guys. What do you think. Should we say this is the last round?", he asks the group and tries to distract from our little conversation. My gaze wanders to the clock to which I then have to notice that it's nearly three o'clock in the morning already. But there's no sign of tiredness anywhere in this room. But never the less we agree that it would be better if this the last round so we still arrive at Aleksi's place before four. "Perfect, then it's time for the duets now. We will select the pairs by chance and I will be singing twice as we're an uneven amount of people. I have", he says and rushes over to the bar and gets another bowl, "written down our names. When the pairs are made one person chooses an artist and the other person chooses a song from them. Nobody gets to talk and agree on someone beforehand because then it's funnier.". Aleksi's idea is very interesting the only problem would be if coincidence plays a joke on me.

It's my heart that keeps beating faster and faster the closer Aleksi's hand gets to the pieces of paper. The last thing either of us needs right now is a duet with eachother. There's a chance of 1 to 28 that the two of us get put in a pair together. The possibility that I end up in a pair with anyone else is much higher, why would we be put together in exactly this moment? Aleksi pulls his own name first and then pulls Tommi to create a pair with him.

He grabs back into the bowl and pulls out a piece of paper. He opens it slowly and reads out the name on it. His gaze that went directly to me is enough to tell me it's my name on the piece of paper. "Hilja.", he says it out loud and then goes to pull another one. I would just love to sink into the couch right now, beam myself somewhere else, just get away from here. Innerly I beg that the name won't be said that I hope for the least but I've already painted a picture of that scenario in my mind how the name that I hope for least gets told to me all of a sudden. "And Hilja is singing a duet with.", Aleksi tortures us with anticipation and opens up the piece of paper. Alone his facial expression which he makes looking down to the floor a little is enough for me to realise that I have the best of luck in things concerning chance in the world. Not. "With Joel.", my gaze falls to the floor just after Aleksi pronounced that name. I just knew it. To a hundred percent but I could have the slightest little bit of hope, didn't I?

After that Niko and Joonas get put in a pair together which means that Aleksi's second duet will be with Olli. Aleksi and Tommi begin, then Joonas and Niko will sing, then it will be Aleksi again but this time with Olli and for the "fabulous closing act" as Niko called it Joel and I will also perform our duet, that's the order we pulled by chance.

While I think about which artist I will choose, if I'm allowed to, Aleksi and Tommi go to the front already and begin to sing a duet from ABBA's 'Waterloo'. The karaoke station has a simple duet-function which is why you can choose any song you like and the programme divides the lyrics up automatically. There's solo verses as also verses both partners sing. The verses are written in different colours so it's actually pretty simple.

After the first duet Joonas and Niko go to the front and only exchanging one look they both seem to know what song they're about to sing. "Guys, we said without talking to eachother!", Tommi protests jokingly. "Don't blame us if we understand eachother blind.", Niko laughs and shrugs with his shoulders innocently. Not even a second later the melody of 'Sharks Love Blood' starts playing. "And you're accusing me of singing one of our songs, thanks, Porko!", Joel laughs before the two of them even start singing.
