Scarlett Loomis was painting while her brother William lay beside her sprawled out on the floor with his arm covering his eyes from the light

"Do you ever miss mom?" He questions suddenly and she halts her movements for a moment before continuing painting
"No. She left us, remember?" She asks bitterly, the older boy frowns, furrowing his brows slightly
"Yeah...but what if it was for a good reason?" He questions

Billy refused to hurt his sister. After their mother took off the girl was sad for a long time, but Billy always made sure she was taking care of herself. She didn't talk to her father as much as she did when she was a child, either

The three would always go fishing or on day-long beach trips while their mother was away on business.
Scarlett always blamed herself for not being able to stop their mother

She had begged to go to the park after the three had gotten ice cream and Billy went along with it, trying to convince their father

He finally caved after they said they would clean their rooms and they stayed at the playground for another hour before returning home.
By the time they arrived, their mother had already packed and was leaning against her car

William took the girl up to the attic which he had turned into a hang-out spot for himself and Stu, placing his Walkman headphones over her ears so she wouldn't hear them arguing.
They went back downstairs after he heard all the commotion stop and their mother was already in her car driving off

"She could've at least said goodbye" the girl grumbles
Her brother sighs sitting up and leaning down to kiss her forehead before standing

"I'm gonna go meet up with Stu. I'll see you later" he states before making his way out of the attic
