The wind caressed us as I drove us home, her touch sending shivers down my spine.

"Any plans after this?" Amelia inquired.

"Why? Where should I be headed?" I responded.

"Just wondering," she said.

"I've got only one destination in mind, and it's not on any map," I playfully remarked.

A blush painted her cheeks at my remark, and I chuckled, accelerating towards home.

"Could you watch a movie with me?" she pleaded, her eyes brimming with a puppy-like appeal that was hard to resist.

"Drop that look," I advised.

"What look?" she feigned innocence.

"Don't pull those eyes on anyone else," I advised.

"I'm clueless about what you're talking about," she feigned ignorance.

I pulled her closer by her waist, whispering into her ear, "You know exactly what I mean, princess."

Her ears turned crimson, and she stared at me, lost in my words. After a moment, she pushed me playfully away and turned on the television.

I couldn't help but smile at her adorable reaction.

Suddenly, the doorbell chimed. Assuming it was my mother or delivery, I opened the door.

As the door swung open, I struggled to process who stood outside. I tried to slam the door shut, but he used his weight to keep it open and shot me a sinister smile.

"Is this how you greet me, Lucas?" he taunted.

Rage surged within me, a maelstrom of emotions I struggled to control. I glared at him, my face flushed, temples pulsing with fury.

"Get out!" I spat, my voice dripping with anger.

"Now, that's not how you welcome someone. Didn't Daphnie teach you any manners?" he sneered.

His mention of my mother only stoked the flames of my anger.

"I never want to hear her name from your mouth," I hissed.

"What's happening? Who's at the door?" Amelia's voice rang from the staircase.

"Amelia, go to your room," I ordered sharply.

But it was too late; he had already spotted her. Pushing the door wider, he regarded Amelia with interest.

"Hello there, we probably haven't had the pleasure. I'm Lucas's father," he introduced himself, extending his hand for her to shake.

"Don't touch her," I warned, pulling Amelia protectively closer.

"I just dropped by to announce my return. Lucas, we'll have a little chat soon. I hope you remember our last conversation from a few years back," he said with a feigned smile.
