Chapter 35: Pay

Hindi ako makatulog.

I kept on waiting for Ruhan's text or call but there is still none. Gusto kong mag tanong sa dalawang agent sa baba pero natutulog na sila. Pasado alas dos na ng madaling araw at gising na gising pa rin ang aking diwa.

Kahit balita sa telebisyon ay hindi maaasahan kasi nga pribadong operasyon ang ginagawa nila Ruhan. Hindi ko maikalma ang sarili. Hindi ako makatulog sa dami ng iniisip.

I should have gone back with Ruhan but if I am seen with him, Yuki will the furious, as expected. Especially after the announcement that I got demoted which basically means Ruhan is indirectly telling them about our break up.

Nang biglang nag tumunog ang aking cellphone, agad akong bumangon kasabay ng pag hawak nito. Nabuhayan ako nang nakitang mula kay Ruhan ang text na iyon.

Ruhan:

Hi, baby. You are probably asleep now. Forgive me I was not able to say my goodnight earlier. I am safe here, okay? Don't freak out but we are still out, baby. We rescued everyone but Yuki is on the loose. We are going after her. I will always be careful. Don't go out without your bodyguards, please. I'll see you tomorrow, baby. Sweet dreams and I love you, Mrs. Buenavista.

Nakahinga ako ng maluwag at agad nagtipa ng tugon pagkatapos mabasa lahat. Reading a single text from him eases the bad tension I had in my chest.

Me:

I am not sleeping yet. I couldn't. But now I'm glad to hear from you, Ruhan. Be extra careful, please. I love you so much.

A few seconds past and a call from him appeared on my screen. Agad kong sinagot ang tawag na halos tinapon ko na ang sarili sa kanya.

"How is my baby doing? Why isn't she sleeping yet, hmm?" malamyos niyang bungad. "I miss you..."

My lips quivered. "I miss you too. I can't sleep."

"Oh, my poor baby. Forgive me... I am worrying you too much. I'll tell you what happened tomorrow, okay? But for now, I want you to sleep in peace,"

Sa sobrang lambot ng boses niya nawala ang bigat ng aking puso. I slowly inhaled and exhaled to fully ease the heaviness in my chest. Hearing his voice calms my greatest fears.

"I need you to lay down on our bed, baby. Can you do that for me?"

Tumango ako kahit hindi niya nakita. "I am laying down now."

"Good girl. Put the phone on speaker."

"Done."

"My good girl. Now just listen to my voice, close your eyes, and try to sleep," malambing niyang tugon.

"Okay..."

He chuckled softly on the other line.

"My baby is such a good girl." marahan niyang bigkas at sobrang banayad. "Tomorrow I'll get to see you, hug you, kiss you, touch you, and make love to you. I am gonna place hickeys all over you and you could do the same to me..."

I am getting sleepier because of how soothing and gentle his voice is. He spoke very gently and in a slow manner that I can feel every syllable like a string being strummed thus releasing a soft tune.

Unti unting akong hinila ng antok. Narinig ko na tinatawag siya sa kabilang linya ngunit hindi ko na napuna dahil sumanib na ang antok.

I woke up when my alarm sounded. Kumain kami ng agahan, mabilis lang akong natapos at nag impake na para makabalik ng Maynila.

Today, Mama and Papa will go to Isla de Vista so all of us were hurrying. Also, dumating na ang chopper kaya kailangan na naming umalis. I will go back to Manila by air and my parents will go to Isla de Vista by land.
