Surprises

The holidays were in full swing, and with it, winter. Ursaring had begun their hibernation as snow began to cover the different parts of the region. Blizzards had likely taken several lives already in Mount Glaseado, covering their cadavers in the whiteout and several inches of snow. The desert's scorching sands clashed with the frigid north wind, while the tagtree thicket had countless pokemon snuggling up to the grimmsnarl, whose muscle-like hair acted like good blankets for some of the smaller critters.

Heaters were on as the whole world fell into a brief pause, the only creatures who were out and about at this point were the ice types, especially the fearsome beartic that terrorized the city of Montenevara as their white fur was blanketed by the snow, their slush rush ability supercharging their speed.

As the holidays passed and presents were exchanged, the twins were currently at home, helping their mother with chores. There was no way they were going to spend the holidays without their mother, after all. The idea of her celebrating it all alone gave both of them a sickly, unbearable feeling. From there, the end of the year was nigh. The slow and relaxed march towards new year's had begun.

"Penny says she likes the gift you got her," Juliana said as she swept the floor, "says she wasn't used at all to people giving her gifts, even tried to refuse them. You should've seen it."

"Mhmm," was the only thing that left Florian's mouth as she washed both his pokemon and hers. Juliana's crocalor didn't take too kindly to the water touching its egg, while her floragato didn't like getting wet in general. His pokemon casually interacted with theirs, which was a bit of a jarring sight to see, all things considered. On one side, high-end pokemon who grew to become badge-winning superstars on the fastlane to the pokemon league. Months ago his gardevoir was just a little ralts he found wandering the grasslands. The same could be said for his rockruff, a daring little pup that dared approach him as he was getting from Point A to Point B. His gabite alone could probably wipe the floor with the entirety of Juliana's team, despite the fact that Juliana had a type advantage in the form of floragato, quaxwell, and tinkatuff.

Speaking of which, the land shark was currently rough-housing with the sailor duck. The rowdy ground type drawing the ire of the much more composed water type, knowing full well it can wipe the floor with it. Florian just sprays the shark with the hose, which didn't do a lot of damage but did send a message across. "Knock it off, you two."

"Are you even listening to me?" Juliana butted in, placing her dustpan down. "She really liked it, you know. All I got her was a cute eevee phone case, you got her a jolteon plushie. Where'd you get it, anyways?"

"Hmm? Oh that thing? I got it from an arcade. One of those ball drop machines gave me a lot of tickets. Not enough to get one of those sweet metagross phone stand charger things, but the plushie was cool." Florian answered. A grin grew on Juliana's face, spanning ear-to-ear as she crept closer, "and it just HAD to be an eeveelution, huh? Something tells me that something more is afoot."

"Jolteon is a cool pokemon, I would use it but I already have a pikachu," the boy said as he squirts his morgrem with a hose to keep it away from his sister's tinkatuff. "But I didn't really see a point in getting stuff about a pokemon I didn't plan on getting, and the holidays were coming up so... I kind of just.. Told you to give it to her. I reckon she would like it because of that bag she carries around."

Juliana got closer, poking her brother in the cheek, "sure...."

"I'm serious"

"You liiikkkeee her, don't you Florian?"

"That's not true"

"Oh come on," Juliana picks up the soap scrubber, her pawmo and his pikachu running straight towards her, "name ONE other person you gave a gift to for the holidays."
