An hour left before New Year's Eve.

Juliana and Arven were talking with each other over drinks, mostly helping the mother with cooking. Arven was quite a solid help, casually getting exactly the perfect measurements and pointing out wonderful suggestions to make the dishes far more delicious and exquisite than they have any right to be.

"Psst.. Julie" Juliana's mother whispered to her, giving her a slight nudge with her elbow, "he's a keeper."

"Mom!!!" Juliana groaned, her mother only giggled at her daughter's annoyance.

Meanwhile, in the living room, Florian sat there awkwardly while trying to watch TV, which broadcasted a live concert which was there for the eventual countdown for the new year. The reason for his discomfort? Nemona. Being her neighbor as well as the odd absence of her parents, Nemona invited herself in on the family new year's eve. She has since spent the past couple hours more or less spooning the lad, stroking his hair, and challenging him to a battle every now and again.

His mother wouldn't shut up about that either. All things considered. Ecstatic, if not euphoric, that her darling little ones had finally grown up and were blossoming into the world of romance. What a way to end the year and start the new one.

As the twins and their friends livened up in the inside of the house, the twin lizards sat still by the beach nearby. Here at the edge of the region, facing the South Paldea Sea. Not far from here was Koraidon's crash site, as well as Miraidon's. The two paradox pokemon sat in silence for a few moments. Not a single word was spoken, be it in warbled growls or thundering chirps. As if they had already known what the other was going to say. As if they were one.

Both wondered the same thing as the last hour of the new year ticked by the minutes. Why the twins? Was it all a cosmic coincidence? Or was there something more? Both were beings out of time, almost to a point where they were not beings from time past or future at all. As if they were paradoxes given life despite how much their existence violated the laws of the universe.

But Arceus works in mysterious ways, one guesses, as does Mighty Arceus' appointed master of time, Dialga, who likely kept everything in line despite how far stretched the people of this region have threatened the fabric of the universe. Perhaps it truly was fate that brought them here, or at the very least divine intervention.

The only thing they can say for now is how grateful they were to the heavens above, the earth below, and the seas beside that they were found by such wonderful people. They know that one day, they will be worthy of being their true masters. They look forward to that day. But until then, only more adventures awaited them.

Koraidon stood up to drink some nearby seawater. The salt of the sea was undrinkable for most creatures, yet the magnificent motorcycle dragon was unfazed. Miraidon watched the creature, observing how its breathing body moved up and down with each gulp. Likely containing organs perfectly adapted through long-term evolution for such a feat of survivalism. What warranted the gain of such a feature remained a mystery much like everything else.

Miraidon mimicked its reddish counterpart, taking a drink as well from the salty water of the south Paldean sea. A creature of the future, it had a complex yet robust feature which allowed it to convert a wide assortment of resources into fuel. A mostly redundant feature, all things considered, thanks to its hadron engine. Its hadron engine allowed it to more or less passively absorb the zero point energy from the quantum foam in-between the virtual particles surrounding it, converting it into matter and then back into energy to use for its own purposes. Sometimes it doesn't even convert into matter at all, and merely collides pure energy outright.

Miraidon could do many things its scarlet counterpart couldn't do. It could send infinitesimal drones composed of tachyon particles moving at superliminal speeds ahead to scan anything and everything around it, sending it back to its mind, feeding it information about every single inch of creation via quantum entanglement. Yet all of it didn't seem to matter, the more it thought about it. Koraidon was there, its orichalum pulse beating in a way its engine could only dream of mimicking.

Soon they both stopped drinking, and both the Winged King and Iron Serpent watched the skies above, where the stars were there to greet them this moonless new year's eve. Awaiting the fireworks to come.

Miraidon was found first, by Juliana somewhere in the wilderness between Mesagoza and home. By the river, weak and depleted. She met Arven along the way there, and he had nothing but disdain for it. Of which it could not blame him. A sandwich was enough to earn its trust, but a deep-seated scar within its own programming, no, mind, prevented it from doing so.

Koraidon was second. Discovered by Florian near the coast close to home. An open entrance to Inlet Cave. He was a lot more taxed, forcing itself to explore the houndour-infested cave, straining its muscles as it defended the young one it now called its companion. A sandwich was also sufficient in earning its trust, but its body had a different problem. The same problem which befell Arven's mabosstiff.

It was something called rapid apoptosis. Programmed cell death was a natural process of life. When a cell lives its span, it dies so that it may not cause severe issues in the body. But specific properties (like its orichalum pulse or Miraidon's hadron engine for example) can cause that to bolster at an excessive rate. Koraidon was strong enough to move around, but too weak to fight, lest it exacerbate its condition, which was only being somewhat undone by Arven's sandwiches after each titan fight.

Juliana at least had her brother (and Koraidon itself) in mind at least, sharing the sandwiches she'd obtained. And for that Koraidon was grateful.

There was a long road ahead of them, both knew of it. But it was one they knew they had no choice but to face.
