"if it's meant to be, it'll be"~lyla~
i fumble with the phone in my hands as i drive down the busy streets of london. rain is pounding down on the hood of my car, and the darkness around me isn't making it any easier to focus on the road.
eventually i find the contact i am trying to reach and hit the call button. it rings a couple times before a static sounds and then it's quiet. "mason?" i ask sadly as a tear rolls down my cheek.
i have been trying to get my mind off of joão and magui, and they only way i know how to do that is to be with other people. i can't go back to my dark apartment and mope around by myself. i need someone to talk and vent to.
"hey lyla what's up? are you okay?" i hear mason shuffling around on the other end, and i really hope i didn't wake him.
"can i come over please?" i'm already driving to his house, so no matter what he responds with, i'm gonna show up at his doorstep anyways.
"yeah of course. what's wrong?" he asks with sincerity in his voice. i sigh and wipe away my pathetic tears. i should've known joão was going to go back to her. i was so stupid not to realize it sooner.
"nothing, i'm fine." i reply. i feel empty inside, i'm definitely not fine.
"lyla?" i hum. "tell me what's wrong." he persists.
"nothing." a sob breaks from my lips and tears fall from my glassy eyes. even over a simple call, it's very obvious that i'm not okay. "i told you mason, everything's fine."
my voice breaks and i hear him sniffle on the other end. "lyla-"
"no mason i'm fine seriously." i slam on my breaks as a car flies out in front of me. i gasp as the car barely misses me and i throw my head back on the headrest, my tears falling harder. "fuck!" i yell and slam my hands on the steering wheel, angered.
"lyla calm down." mason speaks slowly over the phone and i chuck my phone into the passenger seat. a white blob on the ground catches my eye and i reach over the middle console to grab it.
as i unfold it i notice it's joaos shirt, he must have left it in here when i drove him to practice the other day. my tears drip onto the thin material as i hug it close to my chest.
soon my sadness passes and i realize i'm pissed off and angry. i jam my finger into the button signaling the window to roll down and i chuck his shirt out onto the dirty street.
the wicked rain immediately washes the white material grey, as it gets pounded into the dark concrete beneath it. i smile for a second, and then the memories come crashing back and i start to sob again.
"lyla what happened?" mason is still speaking, frantically trying to attract my attention.
"i'm fine, i'm almost there." i end the call and roll my window up. now my clothes are even more soaked then they were before. my continual spilling tears also aren't helping the situation.
i drive around london towards masons house and once i pull into the driveway he hops off the chair he was sitting in on the porch, and runs over to me.
my tears had mostly stopped by then, but the second that his arms were around me, they immediately started to pour again. i sobbed into masons chest as he stroked my back and hair comfortingly.
the rain continued to fall, but masons body shielded me from it for the most part, which i was thankful for.
"cmon let's go inside." he whispered as he tugged on my jacket gently. i followed him into the warm house and he helped me out of my coat, hanging it onto the hook by the front door.
