Ever wondered if there was so much more going on in the Vampire Academy series then we heard? After having read the series so many times, as well as the Bloodlines series (spoilers inside), the short stories released for the anniversary and plenty o...
Seeming too good to be true and yet waking to the beautiful sunrise, Rose found Dimitri had her enveloped. Like a vine, he wrapped around her through the night, her head on his shoulder with his arm resting comfortably on her breast, legs entwined.

Dimitri was running his hands through Roza's hair as she played with the few curls of hair on his chest. "Morning beautiful" Dimitri said as he saw her eyes begin to flutter awake. Leaning in to kiss his Roza, he was rebuffed when she turned her cheek. Sleeping beside him and being engulfed as she is was one thing, but she's not prepared to give in completely just yet. She couldn't trust him to take proper care of her heart.
"Hey yourself" Rose taunted back as she moved back slightly to appreciate the view of her man, hers for now anyway. Despite their talk last night, she was not entirely reassured that he won't fall back into previous patterns and distance himself. Or takes Tasha's offer. Relishing the others touch as they watched the horizon light up in the different colors of the rising sun, he groaned in appreciation. Rare to be touched in such a way as a guardian, it felt just as intimate as anything sexual. Only when the sun had fully risen did they realize they would be going back to reality, a fact driven home when they unconsciously caressed the others marks. It still amazed him how many she had, unable to stop his thoughts of her being an army of her own. Rose wondered how he copes with the loss because that's what it is to her; a life lost, a soul sent to a final death and marking hers for sending it there. He answered her silent thoughts.
"I find my peace with you Roza" he smiled. "Given my upbringing, I find some peace in Church. My greatest peace is you". He knew she was struggling with how much death she dealt already. "Keep reminding yourself that they are not the person they once were and consider the lives you will be saving by ending one soulless existence". Rose had heard this lesson before and tried keeping it in mind, but sleep was difficult, she sees the faces of all those she's killed. Nightmares had her wishing there was another way. A way to save his best friend that he has no clue is a Strigoi. Well it's uncertain still yet, choosing to stay in denial until Sydney confirms otherwise.
"We have to head back soon Comrade" Rose said quietly. He was unsure about her hesitation.
"What is it Roza? Did I do something wrong?" he queried. Burying her face into him, inhaling his scent as if it were the last time she could. Tears formed in her eyes as she replied.
"I can't have you push me away again Dimitri. I don't want to go back because I don't want you to leave me again. Why do you always leave me? Why does everyone always leave me?" He'd never felt like such an ass. He broke his Roza. Holding her close and kissing her head he did his best to soothe her, reassure her that he would not do that again, that he is all in now.
"Sorry for pushing you away. I should've known I can never outrun you" his attempt at humour worked. Rose gave a small laugh through her tears. "I thought I was doing the right thing, for both of us. To put Moroi first and allow you the chance to experience the world as a guardian and woman with people your own age".
