TRIGGER WARNING

"Get in the car," Shane orders as he holds the passenger door open for Lori.

"My name is Merida," I respond, standing my ground as I step outside the house with a large bag in hand.

Lori intervenes, offering a calming presence. "Just let it go."

With those short words, we prepare to leave the house that had been our refuge for so long. And even though I feel like I'm supposed to trust Shane, I can't help but doubt him.

I settle into the car's back seat, and the engine roars to life, filling the vehicle with excitement and a sense of urgency. Lori sits in the front passenger seat, her presence soothing despite the lingering tension. ''Here.'' I look to Carl who sits beside me, he's handing me another comic book we've already read.

''Thanks,'' I reply as I take it with a smile. He's been there a lot for me, sharing his comic books, and talking to me about anything. I even told him about Leia, he said she sounded nice. She was.

Shane suddenly gets a tight grip on the steering wheel as he maneuvers through the quiet, empty streets. His nerves are present among us, to which I can't figure out why, he's really confusing to me, because I cannot read him and I'm usually very good at that.

I occasionally glance out from the window. But when I see another one of those things from outside I let out a small gasp which catches Lori's attention. ''Don't worry,'' she tells me as her hand meets my knee ''you're safe.'' And I see Shane rolling his eyes from the rear-view mirror.
