Chapter 14: His first priority

Taehyung pov:

We're all gathered by the warm and crackling bonfire tonight, our last night of camping, before we head to a hotel for the next three days. Even though we're still on vacation, I can't help but feel a pang of sadness, knowing that I'll miss these camping moments.

To my right, Alice sits snugly between me and my sister, Jennie. On my other side is Jungkook with Amara ,and everyone is busy toasting marshmallows over the fire.

Suddenly, one of the employees suggests, "How about we share some stories? It would be a lot of fun. Maybe even a spooky one, like a real horror story we've heard or experienced." It's Lora, Alice's assistant. I can't help but frown at the timing of this suggestion.

Everyone agrees, and I groan in anticipation. I glance at Alice, who wears a frustrated expression as she pulls her burnt marshmallow from the stick. She shoots me a disapproving look when she hears my chuckle.

I took her stick and put  my perfectly toasted marshmallow in her hand.  "Here, take this." She accepts it with a small nod.

I watched her in the glow of the fire, her eyes glowing with the furious yet soft . She opened her mouth to take a bite of the marshmallow, but I stopped her by holding her hand. She gave me an annoyed look.. 'You know that will burn your tongue; blow on it first,' I whispered near her face, our eyes locked.

As I took the stick and blew on the marshmallow, I couldn't help but wonder why her eyes had such an effect on me. It was as if something were gripping my heart, not painfully, but I could feel it physically. There was something about her that drew me in completely, as if nothing else existed around me except for her.

I could feel the burn in my body just then  someone clearing their throat startled me. I turned to shoot a glare at my twin, who gave me a smug look. Then, I looked back at Alice, seeing her blinking her eyes as if she were in a daze. "I'm not stupid Mr kim I know how to blow, give me that now." she whined with an annoying look on her face , I pressed my lips and tried not to laugh. She looked flustered . I passed her the stick with a gesture to eat and turned my attention back to the fire.

Then, Lora speaks up, catching our attention. "Before we came here, I did some research on this valley," she begins. "I found something eerie about the forest at the end of our camping site. There's a legend that a serial killer used to bring young people here. He'd let them run into the forest and then hunt them down, killing them and hanging their bodies on the trees."

My body shivers in response, and I look around to see that many faces have turned pale with fear. But Lora continues, "They say that even now, the spirits of those who died here roam these woods. Some even claim to have seen people with bloody faces and clothes at night, wandering about."

My hair stands on end at the thought. The atmosphere becomes incredibly unsettling. Amara, by now, clings to Jungkook's arms for comfort, and my twin sister huddles close to my brother, scanning the surroundings as if ghosts might appear at any moment. I've always been afraid of the dark, and now it feels impossible not to sense the fear creeping in.

But right now, I need to teach a lesson to my twin." With a smirk, I reluctantly pulled myself up from my spot. Jennie was sitting beside Alice, so I crept behind her, took a deep breath, and placed my hands over her shoulders. With a loud "Boo!"She flinched and let out a blood-curdling scream. I couldn't help but burst into laughter.

"Damn it, Taehyung! I almost had a heart attack! If I died because of that, I swear I'd haunt you as a ghost for the rest of your life!" she shouted, swinging her fists in the air. I simply nodded and returned to my seat beside Alice, who shook her head at my prank. However, there was no smile on her face as Lora continued to share more stories. My older siblings also look done with me. Amara pulled away from Jungkook and shot me a cheeky smile. I winked at her .
