Vidia had been extra cautious ever since that night at the fair. She didn't walk anywhere outside with both headphones in, she held her pepper spray in her hand instead of letting it dangle on her keys, and she stayed alert at all times. Like now, when in the dead of night she was required to take the trash out all by herself during her closing shift.

It had never been an issue before, but now she was too aware of the long trek from the doors to the big trash cans, and it didn't help that all of the other buildings were closed. Who decided a cafe should stay open until ten at night when all the others shops next to it closed at eight? The invisible decision maker of her fate was practically laughing in Vidia's face right now.

Over the past week she'd heard talk about a self defense club for the girls in her school. She would have gone to the first meeting today but she'd been scheduled right at three. Truth be told it saddened her that she couldn't go, but it's not like there wasn't next week. And her boss already cleared her schedule for that day as long as she needed it free, because no matter what, Vidia was going to be there. Not because she wanted the extra curricular, but because she hated this feeling. She hated having her emotions take over her every minute of everyday, this was why she never cared, because it caused nothing but dread.
