Halt

I experienced a pretty traumatic experience and this poem reflects that. I'm alright though and nobody was fatally hurt. The person referenced has made a full recovery.

The world stopped for you

Everything was still

Everyone was dead silent

There were no sounds, no noises

But then he started crying

You started screaming

Just screaming and screaming

And everything went down

Down

    Down

        Below

Six feet under the ground below

I vaguely remember running to you

Yelling your name

I don't remember

Supporting you as you fell

Carrying you to a place where you could sit

Down

    Down

       Down

          Below

I was told I did

I must have done it

But time did not exist in that room

Never before have I seen someone collapse like that

You couldn't even stand up straight

Three people had to carry you

Never before have I heard someone cry out

In such a broken voice

Like you were on the edge of mentality itself

About to fall

Down

    Down

        Down

            Below

You did not faint

You were awake

And yet you seemed so far away

So far gone

In the stillness of the theater

The quiet of the fear

Everything halted as if in reverence and honor

Of one greater than all

Of one with such talent

Of one precious soul about to break

The world stopped for you
