Old Friends

Be warned. This one is a bit odd. I mainly did it for fun, but hopefully it's not as stupid as it sounds to me :)

I have old friends that no one knows

They like to lurk at night

Assassins, murderers, killers, torturers

Human...but not quite

They go by many names

Some don't have identities

If you don't yet know who they are

Trust me, now you'll see

I've seen things as well as heard

Some aren't my stories to tell

Death's a funny thing, isn't it?

The ideas are quite swell

There's things that watch

And things that listen

And many more that act

Few are fortunate enough to

Pick up on the facts

The little things we never see

Are what allude their presence

It takes some time to learn how...

But eventually, you'll get it

(Though once you do you can't go back

You've good as sold your soul

The knowledge that I've slowly gained

Has taken such a toll)

Spiritual warfare I have wondered well around

But they don't seem to fit into the kind I think about

They influence us in little ways that we won't ever know

And if you feel observed the source is likely not to show

They live alongside humans

Yet hidden from society

Unless the moonlight glints the right way

Off a forest tree

We've found excuses

To explain the unexplainable

What we don't know is

This is not the case - not at all

Do not dismiss anything

That seems off or weird

Because most things are hidden

From the naked eye or ear

Most importantly:

DO NOT CATCH THEIR ATTENTION
COVER ALL YOUR TRACKS

LEAVE THE PLACE BEHIND YOU
AND NEVER ONCE LOOK BACK

Don't indulge in research

The less you know the more

Once they have their eyes on you

You're not safe anymore

Be careful what you wish for

Be careful what you pray

Be careful what you say out loud

To silence kept at bay

Be careful what you think about

Whatever else you do

Do not tell this to anyone
