Amidst the gentle hum of the school break, the air was alive with the buzz of whispered conversations and the occasional burst of laughter. In the classroom, Li Weiwei found herself lost in her thoughts, flipping through the pages of her math textbook but not absorbing a single equation.
Her mind was elsewhere, tangled in the tapestry of her thoughts about Chen Wu, and what happened that night. She was able to escape unnoticed by Chen Wu, and until now their path never crossed. Well that's what Li Weiwei planned in the first place, she cannot face that barbaric man.
Lost in these reveries, she barely noticed the excited whispers and giggles of her friends gathered at their usual spot near the oak tree.
"Li Weiwei! Hey, earth to Weiwei!" Xiao Hui's voice snapped her back to the present moment, one of the real Li Weiwei's friends waving frantically to grab her attention.
Blinking rapidly, Li Weiwei turned to face Xiao Hui, a mild confusion evident in her expression. "Oh, hey, sorry, what's up?"
"Girl, you've been staring into space for ages. Is everything alright?" Xiao Hui quizzed, her eyebrows raised in concern.
Li Weiwei tried to shrug off her distraction with a forced smile. "Yeah, yeah, just lost in my thoughts, I guess."
Xiao Hui chuckled knowingly, nudging Li Weiwei with a playful smirk. "Lost in thoughts or lost in thoughts about someone in particular?"
A faint blush colored Li Weiwei's cheeks as she tried to mask her surprise. "I-I don't know what you're talking about."
Xiao Hui laughed softly. "Sure, sure. Well, remember we're supposed to meet Mrs. Jing for that group project discussion during the break. Don't zone out on me there, alright?"
Li Weiwei nodded absentmindedly, her mind still drifting back to that day how to avoid any chance of running into Chen Wu. She strategized her movements, opting to switch her usual spot to escape any possibility of crossing paths with him. Determination etched on her face, she settled at a far corner of the library, surrounded by books, confident in her plan to evade any accidental encounters.
Lost in a world of literature, she immersed herself in a thrilling novel, finding solace in the fictional realm. The sound of footsteps approaching drew her attention away from the captivating story. A familiar voice resonated through the library, causing her heart to skip a beat.
"Weiwei." Chen Wu's voice held a tone of temper as he rounded the bookshelves and spotted her in the secluded corner.
Startled, Lily tried to mask her surprise, her heart racing. "Oh, hey, Chen Wu. What are you doing here?"
Li Weiwei felt a knot form in her stomach as Chen Wu's usually warm demeanor seemed to shift. His brows furrowed slightly, a tinge of hurt evident in his eyes as he leaned forward, his voice tinged with a mix of concern and frustration.
"Weiwei, what's been going on? Why have you been avoiding me lately," Chen Wu said, his tone a mix of confusion and anger.
Her heart sank as she struggled to find the right words, caught off guard by the directness of his question. "I-I haven't been avoiding you. I've just been busy with school stuff and, you know, things."
Chen Wu's expression remained unconvinced, his disappointment palpable. "It's not just that. You've been changing your usual spots, making excuses whenever I try to talk to you. Did I do something wrong?"
Li Weiwei felt the weight of his words, realizing the unintentional hurt she caused. "No, Chen Wu, it's not you. I've just been... I don't know, nervous or something."
"Nervous about what?" Chen Wu pressed, a mix of confusion and concern in his voice.
Lily hesitated, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I guess I just... didn't know how to act or what to say around you, especially... I didn't want to mess things up or make things weird between us."
