A Maddox Kid's Christmas

Gifts of all sizes are neatly arranged beneath the tree

The sun's warmth dances, melting away the snow that used to be

Puppies dart and play, their restful barks fill the air

Relatives parking in the driveway, adding to the festive flair

Mimi's crafting delicious French toast and waffles, a tempting delight

Impatiently, we wait for the festivities to take flight

The TV flickers with whatever Pepaw desires

An R-rated action film or killer robots, the choice transpires

Siblings and I snoop through bags, shake each box with glee

Our Aunt playfully chasing us, laughter echoing through the spree

Breakfast at the table, grownups lingering in time

Committing a child crime, we think, as we devour our prime

I devour my meal, urging everyone to hasten

Presents beckon, a treasure trove waiting to be taken

The living room seats become coveted thrones

As we gather, anticipation in our bones

Then comes the joyous tearing, a flurry of delight

But looking back, a tear and smile blend, my heart takes flight

Reflecting on those moments, a small child's innocent style

A cherished past, wrapped in nostalgia, making me pause and smile
