Mine

Pushing the door open I ignore the smiles from the other workers. I'm in no mood to be chatty today. They had Nikolai, and he was mine.

I walked over to the desk at the front and showed her my special card, Annalise nodded as she pressed a button and a private door unlocked. Lotus was located in one of the largest corporate buildings in all of New York. As far as the people working here know the top five floors of the building are abandoned.

Instead, they're the headquarters for an organisation of female assassins. It never fails to make me laugh.

The minute the elevator dings I'm rushing into Marissa's office.

"Ivy? What are you doing in here?"

"Where is he? Nikolai? You caught him, where is he being held?" I ask her, the desperation in my voice is crystal clear.

I don't even know what I'm so desperate for, but all I know is I need to find him and talk to him. He's Shadowborns most skilled assassin how the fuck did he get himself caught?

"You are not permitted to speak to him, conflict of interest. My apologies, Rita will be handling his interrogation." Marrisa says, coldly.

Fine then.

I nod as I quickly exit the room, there's a room on the top floor where we interrogate people we bring in. The entire room is soundproof and padded, I know that's where Nikolai is being held and where he will be interrogated.

I spot Rita at the end of the hall and corner her, "I'm going to be the one interrogating Nikolai, not you."

"Um..that isn't allowed sorry, conflict of interest and all that boring stuff. Don't worry, I'll be gentle with him."

I do not have any patience left to even pretend to play nice with her, "Rita if you don't hand me those documents and let me speak to Nikolai alone I will call your husband up and tell him what you've been doing every Friday night...or more specifically who you've been doing."

She shoots me a dark look before shoving the documents into my hands, "Fine, you get half an hour."

I smile at her before unlocking the door and stepping inside. Nikolai looks up at me and raises an eyebrow. He's handcuffed to the table, and tied to the chair he's sitting on. His hair is a little messy but he appears otherwise unharmed.

The lie detector he'd attached to beeps, indicating a rise in his heartbeat. Of course, he didn't expect to see me.

"Morning, Poison. Here to have a chat with me?"

"How did you get caught?" I ask him, sitting down and setting up the lie detectors.

"I suppose I was having an off day." He replies calmly, but with one glance at the computer screen he's hooked up to I can see he's lying.

"You can't lie."

"You also can't make me tell the truth, so let's get this over with." He says, looking around and I narrow my eyes at him. He seems remarkably calm.

"You aren't scared?"

"I know how this is going to go, you'll ask me questions about Shadowborn and I'll either lie to you or refuse to answer anything. Then you'll likely move to torture me and I still won't talk and then you'll shoot me. There's fear in uncertainty but I'm certain of what will happen to me."

How interesting, he's right of course about what's going to happen. My heart squeezes at the idea of him being tortured though. I wonder if it was me sitting tied up in that chair and he was the one with all the power if he would allow me to be tortured.
